Kosciusko (pronounced kozzy-os-ko but affectionatly known as "Kossy") is an Australian outback RPG based on the Silver Brumby by Elyne Mitchell. Primarily a brumby (feral horse) RPG you can also play any other Australian wildlife! You're also allowed a limited number of men with their domestic animals.
We're based on the idea of the Silver Brumby series but we provide all the information you need to play. We do not support canon characters here, we're set after their stories, but their legends live on and they are often mentioned.
New members, check out the rules before joining a character. We'll see you in the outback!
29/10/09 -- Hah! Spot the difference ^_^ Hope you like the new skin guys, let me know if you spot any bugs =)
22/06/09 -- Again, the rules got a bit of an update. This time it's the way fights work. No if a stallion has less than half of the points of the stallion they are challange, they will definitely lose. I've also updated the board descriptions a little as well as adding a few new boards, so speak up if you notice a typo! 04/02/09 -- Updated the rules a smidgen. Nothing major, just tidying them up and adding a few clarifications. Please re-read when you have a spare moment =) 24/01/09 -- Had a bit of an affiliates cleanout. If I've deleted your banner by accident and it has been active this year, then feel free to repost the request =) 23/01/09 -- I've tidied up a few of the administration boards! The "Order of the Outback" board has been updated and mixed around so you're welcome to have a look at that. I also reorganised the Character Creation boards, but I realised a little too late that any links to brumby or critter profiles will now be broken -- oops! You'll have to relink any of those, sorry for the inconvenience! 20/01/09 -- A bit of a few slow-news months!! Anyhow, hoping you're all liking the the new skin! I've added a bit of a feature as you can see to the right. Thats what the gang-gangs are gossiping about. If anything happened in the game that would become common knowledge, PM me (Tiggs) and I'll plonk it up there. 02/06/08 -- I've added a little to the rules under "Activity". I'm sure I had it written down before but apparently not! I've also cleaned out a few accounts and moved the inactive characters to the archive. 02/05/08 -- Tingara has taken the position of the King after the last ruler's disappearence! 10/03/08 -- Aleo is now King of the High Country! Congratulations! 03/03/08 -- Updated the rules on Breeding a little. Please vote in the poll in the OOC section =) 06/02/08 -- Kosciusko is BACK! I've reset all the boards and moved any profiles that were made previous to 2008 to an archieve. If you're a returning member, just copy the forms you've made and re-post them for acceptance.

Re: the roughies, [O] « Result #1 Today at 10:38am »
Tom chuckled at the jumble of shouts and good-natured cursing that greeted his arrival. Most of the men were drovers or stockmen like him, but there were usually one or two wranglers, most of them blokes Tom wouldn’t trust further than he could throw them. They were cunning as shithouse rats, mean blokes, fast with their fists and hard on their horses.
A couple of minutes passed, and then Jason Mannering himself appeared in the doorway. Tom grinned and caught the beer as it was thrown to him. With one quick flick of his wrist, he cracked the lid off against the door frame and took a long swig. The beer was warm but it was better than what some of those other miserly bastards offered.
Jason Mannering was one of the finest stockmen in the district, and could sit some of the roughest brumbies this side of the mountains. Ever since the wrangler had helped him drag a cranky old bullock out of the saltbush scrub, Tom held a sort of grudging respect for the tough old bastard.
“What bunch of old plugs are you trying to flog off now, Mannering?” Tom took another swig of his beer and then shook his head. “I’ve told ya before mate, a stock horse is the way to go, not those mongrel brumbies of yours.”
He took off his hat and scratched his forehead. He knew he smelt of dust and sweat, of a hard day’s work and long hours in the saddle. In his scuffed and broken boots and filthy dirty after hauling that calf out of the mud, Tom wished he could have at least washed the smell of cattle nuts from his shirt and given his boots a good polish. Even so, when Jason headed for the door, Tom ambled casually after.
Banjo, hearing Tom’s voice started to thump his tail. When his master appeared on the veranda, the dog bounded towards him and all but bowled him over in his excitement. “Get off ya cheeky bugger!” Tom shouted, and half-heartedly raised his hand. The dog slyly dodged the blow, and then barrelled past the two men to go flying off towards the stockyards. The roughies scattered nervously, and neat as you like, the dog slipped through the fence on the far side of the yard and disappeared into the bush.
“Bloody dog I’m going to kill him when I catch him,” Tom swore under his breath, and he clenched his fists. He should never have taken that damn dog as payment for a bad debt in the first place. Bloody O’ Grady and his bloody useless dog had made him the laughing stock in Taparoo.
Tom downed the rest of the beer and without saying a word, looked to where the sturdy grey mare grazed quietly in the stockyard. There by her side was a neat chestnut colt, and Tom who could appreciate a fine piece of horseflesh when he saw it, ran a critical eye over the line of shoulder, broadness of chest and strength of hindquarters. He whistled with surprise at the sight and turned to Jason. “That sure is a mighty fine looking colt you’ve got out there. But how’d she cope with the foaling, she’s got to be as old as the hills.”

Picking her way along the shallow creek’s edge came a dapple rose grey filly with long black-brown mane and tail. She did not seem in any hurry, nor did she seem to be paying attention to anything but her feet. Her mane was getting to be so long that it reached down past her eyes. Mayrah was in a world of her own, and she was almost upon the colt by the time she spotted him.
She shied in surprise, dark eyes widening and ears pinned back uncertainly. The male was no older than her, she guessed, but there was no telling how friendly a male was by age alone. Her nostrils flared as she took silent measure of the colt. His coat was a strange golden colour, the guard hairs glittering in the dappled sunshine. She had never seen such a strange colour, and she stepped forward cautiously for a better look.
Mayrah snorted and shied back again, crossing the creek hastily to put some distance between them. Her roaming alone had taken a toll on her, and strangers made her nervous. She tossed her head and trotted back the way she had come at double speed. She paused and glanced back, mistrustful gaze uncertain. Did she introduce herself, or flee?

Uuna watched with pride as Boolee inspected his newest daughter. She knew he would find no fault with her, even if both her parents were more aged than most. Coreen squealed and looked indignant at being pushed by her father, but soon realised she had just passed some sort of test. Uuna huffed and nipped her stallion right back, and then he was off, inviting her to run with him. She took a few trotted steps then halted. Her knees were far too stiff for this gaiety, but she nudged Coreen onward and the little bay filly romped after her father with as much grace as a gangly foal can manage.
The yearling’s antics did not escape Uuna’s notice, and the old mare shook her head. The colt would find himself in a world of trouble very soon if he continued to step on his father’s nerves. His mother should have taught him better that to taunt a grown stallion.
The stocky old bay dun mare lowered her head to graze, watching her mate and filly chase about like fools. She couldn’t help but smile. Despite all his gruffness, Boolee was still a wild spirit in his heart. Not even age could steal that from him.
By chance, she glanced a creamy mare and dun foal grazing not far away, and she recognised the mare as Boolee’s elusive Cardinia. Uuna huffed. That mare needed to learn respect also. She was always drifting off, testing Boolee’s patience. She turned, and her mane and forelock fell down to obscure her view of the mare while she continued grazing. The mare was none of her business. Boolee would see to her soon enough.

Eira listened intently. "I'd love to come with you," the filly whickered softly. "Truth to tell, I get lonely, being on my own most of the time, and I also find being in your company enjoyable." She met his eyes for a moment, then shyly looked away. Boldness was not one of the silver filly's strong points.

Terrifying? Dangerous? Those weren't the words Arana thought of when she looked at him. But rare? Yes, she hadn't seen anything like it before, something she found very alluring and different to all the bays, grays and chestnuts that was common amongst the Brumbys.
"Well, I think your coat is beautiful," She said, smiling. She leaped down from her rock gracefully, kicked up her heels and galloped off, wind lifting her thick mane from her neck. "Come" She called over her shoulder, listening for the sound of hooves to come and race after her. She may be small but she was very fast.

Re: the snowgrass stallion, [O] « Result #7 Yesterday at 3:40pm »
OOC: Posting really quickly because I just realised I was holding this thread up...sorry!
BIC: Imber trembled harder at the sound of voices, though they were undoubtedly friendly. The mare nickered to her gently but still Imber hesitated, more concerned over the stallion's reaction. Having never met her sire she had lacked any contact with stallion's until she had encountered the one who had driver her from her mother and so it was not surprising that she considered them all to be brutish and cruel. This bay stallion had seemed different with the chestnut, but all the same she was concerned. Imber winced as the stallion nipped the mare, ashamed that she had caused the mare's punishment and certain that she would receive harsher treatment from the male, but when the stallion walked forward he did not assume an aggressive pose. Nervously, Imber remained where she was, ears flickering uncertainly but keeping a cautious eye on him. The bay stopped beforte he got too close and Imber breathed out a sigh of relief, grateful for the space he was giving her.
“Come and join us,” invited the stallion kindly. “There is only my mare and I, and there surely isn’t much snowgrass for you to graze on in here!”
Imber looked beyond him at the chestnut mare, who, for all Imber's misguided conceptions of stallions, looked happy enough. The stallion's gaze was open and friendly, he did not seem dangerous, no more so than it was for her to be wandering the brush alone. Slowly the filly nodded, and stepping forwards to cautiously offer her velvety black muzzle to his in a shy greeting.

"Well...to tell the truth, I was wondering if you'd like to come with me?" He did not fear the question, he just didn't want to rush her, and so had left it for later. Flicking his mane to rid the flies from his face, Yalkara continued on in the cool air, a light drizzle around them from the storm. "A herd, I suppose. I miss having one, and I find your company very....," Pausing for the word, he then continued again. "...Likeable,"
