His heart beat raced into a million miles per hour; he could hear the pulsing in his ears. Glancing over at the mare that now lead them to safety, Kambigo couldn't help but notice how her dark mane almost matched the night that would soon be his. Things never change that much for the Nightrunner at night. It was like it would have looked in the sunlight to him, just with lesser colours. The sky above them seemed to swell and throb with dangerous growls of thunder and occasional flicker of lightning.
He stretched his stride out and soon matched Niribi's gallop, though he had to slow down now and then to make sure he was still following her and not the other way around. The light dimmed and rocks and rabbit holes grew more and more in population. He noticed the faint light the glimmered off lake Coopatamba, but kept at his steady pace; racing past it. It was exhilerating racing the storm and Niribi's excitement seemed to radiate off of her and like a disease, Kambigo found himself wanting to go faster; to show the storm off. His muscles twitched and his pace grew even faster.
And then, as if to ruin his fun, Niribi let out a warning neigh, the ground becoming covered in rocks and they soon passed a familiar ridge. Sighing, Kambigo slowed down as Niribi did. His sides slicked in sweat, his breathing heavy. He carefully picked his way threw the rocks, forgetting that Niribi didn't have as good of eye sight in the night as he did. His pale coat stood out against the dangerous sky, he could have been seen for kilometres out, especially with the lessening protection of the trees. Then remembering Niribi, Kambigo stopped and looked at her expectantly. Waiting for the orders.
OOC|| Sorry it took so long!

Kambigo easily kept up with her as they crept over the rough ground, and Niribi knew that as the light faded his eyesight would improve dramatically. And hers would fade. Therefore they needed to go fast now; while the twilight light was kind to the both of them. Kambigo stopped and looked at her expectantly, and Niribi felt another thrill of fear as a strong gust of wind sent her tail flying in every which direction. The storm was getting closer.
“We are going to have to race across the main range to reach the South Ramshead in time,” said Niribi, not sure whether to feel worried or determined. This was going to end up being a lot closer than she had first thought. “The valley with the caves in it drops right into the earth, so it is fairly easy to spot so long as you are above it. You can run ahead if you wish; I will point you in the right direction.”
Kambigo would undoubtedly be able to gallop faster than she and Niribi did not want to hinder him with such a ferocious storm on their tails. It would be selfish of her to do so, and besides, she would be able to catch up.
OOC: Sorry it's so short

Kambigo listened intently to what she said when she was closer to him, he nodded then looked around. He itched to run, but the ground would prove to be a problem; but once they were past that, it would be alright. He started picking his way through the rocks again, knowing that Nirribi would be on his heels. Kambigo began to pick up speed as the rocks lessened and the ground became more clearer.
He bounded down the gentle flat; excitement flowing through him and possibly into the pale buckskin, Nirribi. He raced ahead, loving the feeling of the wind as it tugged at him mane, and pushed his slender limbs. He called again to Nirribi, making sure that she was close behind him; and if she was not close, he slowed down. The darkness decended on them and would have turned everything into a dark siluette for Kambigo, only he was born in the night; and was bred for the moon to illuminate his white pelt, so it was soon becoming familiar territory.
The ground began to stop, and there was a large gap in the ground. Kambigo assumed this is what Nirribi had meant, so he trotted forward; trying to find a way down, but since he did not know this land as well as he should, he decided to wait for the wisdom of the young mare.
OOC|| Its no problem. Lol i suck at describing the High Country and stuff. xD Its hard when I've never been there.

Kambigo led the way through the reds of the sharp rocks and boulders, Niribi following willingly on his tail. But when they reached flatter ground, Kambigo raced off at a pace that she knew she would not be able to match. She was not really built for endurance running and already they had covered quite a distance. But the storm loomed over her pushed her on and she forced her muscles to run despite felling exhausted. It was just a little further…
Darkness smothered the country, and Niribi felt a stab of fear at the thought of losing sight of the glorious Nightrunner and being left at the mercy of the storm, when Kambigo’s mysterious voice floated out of the shadows, and the pounding of his hooves up ahead slowed. Niribi hurried along to catch up, heartened to know that he had slowed to let her catch up. Her eyes adjusted to the lower light a little more and she could see his pale form up ahead; glowing like a beacon of hope in that oppressive night. His sunset coloured eyes could see in the dark; all was not lost.
She came up beside him and the valley hole that seemed to drop straight into the earth with no way of penetrating it. But Niribi knew better. Her extensive explorations up here and her curious spirit had led her to discover a hidden wallaby track down to the bottom and the sheltering caves that only required one to push through the restricting bush. But even she who was fearless when exploring knew that it was exceedingly dangerous even when well lit - if any creature ventured even the slightest bit off the track they would go hurtling down into the depths of the valley many hundreds of feet below and crash.
Sniffing around at the ground, she finally found the start of the track and pushed forward. Kambigo did not know the way and she was going to have to do it virtually blind. A nervous sweat broke out all over her coat and she glanced back over her shoulder to call Kambigo to come when she caught sight of the storm clouds now looming so close that they obscured the top of the highest mountain, and a fog or mist was quickly obscuring territory they had just raced down. Whether it was rain or snow or hail that the howling winds carried Niribi could not be sure, but knew that it surely came with a force to knock a horse off its feet and down a mountain side. She hoped that Goondooloo had found shelter. And with one last glance at the storm she called out to Kambigo, “Come,” before plunging into the scrub.

The Nightrunner looked around and watched as Nirribi quickerly caught up. He watched her curiously as she began to sniff around the ground; obviously she was having difficulty seeing in the lessoned light. She moved over towards the edge and for a moment Kambigo held his breath. There was thick bush and scrub around the edges and he was uncertain when she began to push through. "Come." Was all she said, but he could feel and see how nervous she had become. He saw her look past him; making glance over his shoulder.
In the distance the clouds had started to cover the now distant mountain and a strong, misty sort of rain was begining to race across the country. He turned back to look at Nirribi, but she had gone. A soft nicker fluttered his nostrils in a reflex action to her disappearence. He walked up and down the tree line before blowing through his nostrils and catching her scent. Like a map, he followed the direction it took; through the bushes. He brushed up against her rump, but took little notice as his eyes had diverted to looking down into the deep valley below. It was then he realised how dangerous this mission really was. And for one that was blind in the darkness to lead! Yet if she went tumbling to her death, he would not. It was a terrible thought, one that he immediately shunned as he had grown quite attached the adventurous mare's company. He followed silently, occasionally pushing a rock down the gorge to see how far it would have been if one did fall; and whether or not they would survive the fall.

Niribi’s thoughts flickered momentarily to the Nightrunner behind her as he called out but she resisted replying and concentrated again on the path ahead. There was no room for error here, and she must not be distracted. So she ignored Kambigo for the most part, even when he came right up behind her.
She tentatively tested the ground with a hoof before placing it down to be sure that the ground beneath her feet was solid and occasionally felt the sickening feeling of the ground giving out under her. It was only her experience with rocky paths like this that kept her safe she was sure, and suspected that if she fell; so would Kambigo. He was following so closely behind, and if she did fall she would most likely take a huge chunk of the trail with her. This in turn could easily start an avalanche of rock cascading down and take the Nightrunner with it. That particular morbid thought made her concentrate even harder on the path ahead, every sense straining to be sure that the ground was safe to walk on.
And still the storm got closer. The rain that it surely brought added another variable to navigate, one that Niribi really didn’t want to deal with right now. Water would loosen any already tedious parts of their rocky descent and perhaps wash others away completely. They needed to hurry.
Niribi picked up her heels and went faster; as fast as she dared. She ignored the terror rising in her chest and stopped her legs from breaking out into a trot. They were so close now. Finally she pushed through the last bit of woody scrub that had been obscuring the track and the way to the bottom was clear. She let out a joyous neigh to Kambigo, accompanied with a triumphant buck, despite the fact that they were still quite high up off the ground. Then again, Niribi had always been described as brave bordering on the point of foolish. So with her tail held high she trotted down the now much wider track into the very depths of the valley, forgetting the storm momentarily in her victory. She had led both herself and Kambigo safely down to shelter!
When her hooves touched the tender snowgrass again, she did a little twirl and reared up, waiting for Kambigo. Her eyes had adjusted well during the climb, and she could now see fairly well, even though it would be nothing compared to what the Nightrunner would be able to. She was almost certain that they would be safe now, even thought they were not in the caves yet. The only way that anything from the storm above could enter the valley was if it was pelting straight down, and by the speed it was going, it was fairly obvious that ferocious winds had driven it. It would all likely blow straight over the valley without barely anything reaching the bottom.

After tossing a few rocks down into the valley below, and observing how far they went, glinting and crashing down the side of the rocky ledge; Kambigo had kept up with Nirribi, keeping silent and watching as she picked her way through her darkness. He could have helped her, he could have told her where to step; but he didn't. He kept silent and followed as slowly as she did. His pale ears flickered about, occasionally hearing the loud rumble of thunder and wincing at the suddenly light that flashed across the sky. His skin prickled and he knew it was coming closer yet, and it would prove to be another disaster if the rain suddenly caught them both. Not even Kambigo would be able to save himself if it softened up the ground and fell out from under their hooves.
Then, suddenly their pace began to increase and Kambigo knew that they were nearing the end of their travel. He saw ahead the low hanging tree and scrubs that covered the end of the trail. He held back and waited for Nirribi to push her way through, before he then pushed himself through the mass of leaves and twigs. He felt every scrap as they pushed past and after going down a wider path, the ground changed. Instead of hard stone, long, soft snowgrass welcomed both the horses. A sigh escaped Kambigo's lips and he watched as Nirribi danced playfully over the grass; looking as glorious as ever. He then leaped playfully after her, giving a small buck of joy. He moved over next to her, giving her a playful nudge with his soft, pink skinned nose. "Well done." He murmured.

Niribi positively glowed with Kambigo’s praise, and danced around happily for a few moments until a sudden crack of thunder broke over head and a large rain drop hell down and landed squarely on her muzzle. “I think we’d better get under cover if we don’t want to get drenched!” exclaimed Niribi playfully, her demeanor relaxing now that she was sure they were both safe from the storm. She nipped him gently on the shoulder and threw a cheeky neigh back to him as she sprang away in a bouncy canter.
The valley was longer than she remembered, having only visited here once before, but that didn’t really bother her now. The sound of raindrops hitting the leaves of the trees above them along with te roar of the wind as it passed over the valley filled the air, but Niribi raised her voice over the racket to throw a joyful call back to Kambigo. The caves were visible up ahead, even in the low light, but soon it would be night. Not that bothered Niribi; she wasn’t scared of things she should be, let alone petty things like the dark. And besides, Kambigo would be there was well.
OOC: Ok, so I completely changed this and ended up writing a quick short one. Maybe we could do a few more of ones like this to wrap up the thread?

Kambigo grinned and nipped her playfully on the shoulder. He barely jumped when a crack of thunder rolled over the sky. Then it started to rain, scarce drops hit here and there at first, but it would soon get heavier. “I think we’d better get under cover if we don’t want to get drenched!” Kambigo didn't have time to agree, as Nirribi started and began to race down the valley. The nightrunner smiled and chased after her. The rain splattering occasionally over his coat, and when she called, Kambigo couldn't help but let a wild call roll out over the valley.
Kambigo could see their destination up ahead, some low, dark caves. He sped up and brushed past Nirribi, throwing another neigh back over his shoulder to her. He kicked up his heels playfully and headed straight for the first couple of caves ahead.
OOC|| Yep, keeping it short and sweet to end the thread sounds gooood to me ^.^ sorry about the crappy post though xD

Niribi wasn’t anywhere near as fast as Kambigo, but she didn’t mind that so much. Now the danger was effectively past, she was still rather amazed about her day’s events. She had no idea when she woke up that morning that by the time evening came she would be romping with a Nightrunner in a hidden valley.
Kambigo disappeared into the first caves and Niribi followed without a second thought. Once inside, she shook herself playfully, showering Kambigo in water droplets as she did so. The rain was making a quiet melody on the leaves outside, and the cave was quite cool as nightfall really approached. She stood a little closer to Kambigo, who would undoubtedly be able to see far better than her in this half light.
She was tired, more so than she had realised when she was running for her life. Her eyelids were so heavy all of a sudden, and she found herself swaying on her feet. Just keeping up with Kambigo had taken most of the energy out of her, despite all her stamina. “Well, we made it,” she murmured drowsily as the light fell even further.
OOC: Sorry for taking so long: I've been unwell *fails*
