Mering saw the anger in the others eyes and felt a fire begin, even in his own hooves; daggers connected but only to graze the skin, and so he swung left away from snapping teeth, but gaining a nasty slash on the neck. Snorting in anger he threw himself once more to the right, hoping to off-balance Kareela by cannoning into his shoulder. He carried about the same weight as him, but Kareela was older, and his weight would be more developed. Feinting to the side, he instead, struck with forelegs at the others eyes. Even though he would not win this fight, he promised himself to leave with dignity and a word of return to Kiah, for he would have her run with him one day. He could feel the blood from his wound trickling mindlessly from his sweating neck, and blinked in surprise, had it been that bad of a bite? Orbs hardening, he dove to the others hocks, in the hope of slashing them with his teeth.
Kiah watched the fight carefully, eyes never straying from the pair, not even to be afraid of the gathering shadows in the bush; come to watch a fight that whispered on the breeze, for the wise-ones knew that either one of them could one-day be a king, no matter where they were king of. Shying away from the blood she saw staining Mering's shoulder, the fight in him becoming weaker for it, but he did not fall, in fact, he attacked in vicious circles; Surely she did not want this? But without this, there would be no conqueror, and that was unheard of in the bush. She must stay and wait to comfort her stallion.

Time and time again the grullo dove at him, and though he made contact the first few times, Kareela found himself improving in anticipating the other's moves, and when the grullo went to attack his face was able to fling his head out of the way before the black forelegs could hit him. When the grullo dove for his hocks he squealed and kicked out angrily, teeth grazed his right hind but the wound was shallow enough, though it stung now it would heal. Half-rearing he spun away, then turned abruptly once more, intending to slash the others haunches with his sharp hooves and so weaken him.
