Alkira was trembling with excitement as she picked up her hooves eagerly, moving rhythmically behind the sturdy black mare before her. Her ears pricked to catch the mares words through the blowing of the chilly wind that seemed to grow stronger as they climbed higher. Alkira's pale lips turned into a smile at the thought of following a kind, even tempered young stallion - something she had been nervous about for quite some time now.
In a swift moment, that smile dissapeared. The expression on the pale mares face became nervous once more, her bright blue eyes flickering to and fro between the two places where she was sure she had seen a pair of horses - made of snow. Her heart thudded frightfully and Alkira broke into a fast trot, jolting to a stop beside Wirinuns comforting frame.
Her breath came quicker as she stared at the spot where the last brumby had dissapeared, and her delicate ears remained stiffly upright to catch any sound that might be made by the ghost horses. Alkira pressed her slender frame against Wirinuns warm body, eyes wide and frightened. OOC; sorry its crappy >.<

At any other time the mare may have felt bad for the stallion's confusion but Ingoola was much too engaged in the game to spare him now. The unprecedented sound of the challenge from the black mare only amused her further, and she hurried to reach her next lookout point. Skirting a clump of snowgums she trotted up a steep crop of rocks. Reaching the top she whinnied again, her voice echoing satisfyingly in the still air. She did not dare to rear up here, she was much too precariously balanced for that, but she did strike out with her right front leg, careful not to kick any rocks or dirt. Then she called once more before whirling around and leaping down the rock to her next spot.

Euroa remained hidden as she moved around the group from the shelter of rocks to a copse of trees, following her sister’s progress by ear. Peeking between the snowgums, she waited until Ingoola disappeared after her last display, waited a few seconds than burst out of the trees to rear and prance before rushing away again.
She disappeared into the bush with a taunting laugh, hurriedly making progress away from the group to clamber up a hidden pathway so she was above them once again. They were causing such confusion, and it was so fun! She felt a little pang of guilt that they might be scaring the brumbies below, but mystery was their intent, not fear. The birds would be talking for days of tales about a magical disappearing mare, who could appear where she liked at will.

The reassurance from the black mare only settled his racing mind. Ghost or no ghost, he wasn’t losing it. The statement gave Wirinun strength, as did the protection Alkira figured he offered when she pressed herself against him. The painted stallion gently touched his nose to the mare in comfort, but moved away from her as the figure appeared once more. He called a challenge to the white silhouette once more – not a threat, but a promise of safety. He would not hurt the creature, but he intended to find out what it wanted. As it began to disappear, Wirinun charged forward in the same direction.
He moved quickly, his sturdy hooves aiding in the prevention of slipping off the icy slopes, as he attempted to find the foolish Brumby. It’s not a ghost... he tried to convince himself, but the reverberating call that sounded behind where he had left the two mares were preventing the stallion from believing himself. No solid being could have travelled so fast, and in these conditions, between the two ridges where the figure was appearing! What other explanation was there then? Definitely a ghost.
Wirinun plunged with effort through the swirling snows, until at last he thought he saw the silky strands of a tail not far from him. Following with a determined stride, the patterned stallion moved to where he had seen the Brumby and found himself on a ledge above Pengana and Alkira. Looking around, he found no trace of another or a possible route to leave the ledge other than the one he had just taking. Wirinun called out again to the winds, his frustration clear in his throaty squeal. "I demand to know what is going on! What is it that you want, creature of the snow? I cannot understand what you want!"[/i]

Pengana came up on Wirinun's other side, pressing her nose to his neck for a moment. "Be calm," she murmured. "If it was a ghost, would it not tell us what it wanted from us?" The black mare gazed calmly at her companions.

(Ballie, if you don't mind, could you not have Penganga smell them? They are downwind so she really shouldn't be able too, plus it's much more fun if it's a game )
