The storm grew louder and more insistent, but Nandalie provided much warmth for which Binda was grateful. The night went on, and Binda slept fitfully, more dozing than truly sleeping - her dreams were troubled that night. When she awoke to the sound of the dawn chorus, she stretched and found that Nandalie was already awake and appeared to have been so for quite a time already.
Binda was still sore and stiff, with even shifting slightly causing great discomfort. She knew she would never make it to his herd in a timely fashion. “You will have to go, for I fear that I will slow you down too much,” she said with regret in her voice. She wanted to go with the roan stallion and make an appearance to his herd with him, but supposed what difference was a little longer to wait going to make? She’d been on her own for so long, she doubted that her social needs were going to overwhelm her.
“I will be waiting for you,” she murmured, and touched her nose to his as a sign of farewell, for the time being at least. Today she would rest and recuperate, and perhaps her injury would lessen.
