Damon was watching Jason with slightly narrowed eyes. He was too tired to be hungry, but he was still tearing up the turf all the same. What was this fool doing now? For a moment, he thought he might be dumb enough to get off his horse. Oh, what fun that would be, towing his mare around the creek, waiting until he had almost caught up before moving a little way off again. Alas, no, Jason was keeping himself firmly planted in the saddle.
... And by the looks of it, trying to get another rope on him. Damon wanted no part of that, but he didn’t want to budge either, so instead he just turned around, giving Jason a big view of his creamy rear while he grazed, making it hard to get a rope on. If the mare tried to go around for a new position, never matter, he'd just turn around again.

Jason sighed at the miss and reeled in his rope. "Alright Marie, if that's the way he wants it." Draping the second rope over the horn, he took hold of the reigns and tried something he and Marie had been practicing on slow days. Marie lifted her head up, turned her rump to the trees and started walking backward. Jason hoped the rope already loop[ed around the animals neck would tighten, and then the creamy would have no choice but to walk forward. A few paces was all he needed. A sturdy looking tree wasn't far away and that was the next step in his plan to defeat the escaped stallion.

Damon had to incline his head around slightly just to see what the heck these two were up too. He didn’t raise his head, just sort of peeked to the right. Well, if they thought they were going to be able to drag him they had another thing coming, so he went back to the forceful grazing.
He quickly noticed that infernal rope was starting to get annoyingly tight, he could still breathe, but it was hardly a good position as it was cutting into the same spot as when he’d been running, so it was quickly getting very sore. He tried to lead forwards against it to try and make up some slack, but he quickly realised he wasn’t going anywhere until he put his shoulders in it.
So, feeling agitated at this fellows persistence, he lifted his head and was about to step forwards when, HISSSSSSSSS, and success.
GODAMNIT!

Jason grinned when his second attempt hit home. He quickly jerked the second rope taught, and urged Maire backward just a little more. With the first rope still attached to the horn of Marie's saddle, Jason used the long end of the second rope to quickly fling around the tree's trunk he had moved back to. It wasn't a particularly large tree, but it was stronger than the horse. Tethering the rope tightly, he smirked at the horse.
Leading Marie now away from the first tree, he found a second one in range of the rope's radius and untied the end of the first rope from the saddle horn. With the other rope keeping the creamy tied, Jason started to wrap the other rope around the second tree. Not entirely necessary to hold the animal, but it would make sure the well muscled horse couldn't get out of both restraints.

Damon’s reaction time to anything that wasn’t a midstride transition from a piaffe to a flying change was notorious, and by the time he’d realised he was tied up with the first rope and thought up a plan, the second rope was already securely in pace. With an angry snort at his own incompetence, he reared up and lunged forward at the same time, almost strangling himself in the attempt and quickly giving up.
Well, the man had to untie him at some point to get him home, so Damon casually turned his head around and fixed Jason with an evil ‘Now What, Bigshot?’ sort of look.

Chuckling at the futile lunge, Jason coaxed Marie out of the stallions range and dismounted. He patted her neck as she lowered her head to graze. "Keep an eye on him, Marie." The mare snorted and gorged herself on the luscious creek-side grass. Jason shook his head, double checked the knots on the trees and jogged off into the trees. The hut was just up the hill, and he was going to need a lot more rope to get the damned creamy up the hill and into the corral. Luckily he had quite a supply i the hut that he left there over winter.
Marie happily grazed, ignoring the creamy from the most part. She looked smug as she made a show of grazing the good grass, unrestrained.

Damon watched Jason go until he was out of sight, gave the mare another death glare then walked purposefully over to the first knot. He was almost there when the second rope halted his progress and he snorted in frustration. So much for trying to learn how to untie it. But, wait, the first rope looked longer than the second, so he went over to the second knot, was again pulled up short, but could just get it if he almost strangled himself while trying. Almost got it... wait, no, damnit. All he’d succeeded to do was to pull it tighter.

Marie looked up while the stallion tried to investigate his restraints. She laughed loudly when he made the same mistake trying to look at the second knot. "What are you doing? You can't get away, so why try? Stay still. The rope tightens when you move." The bay stock horse whinnied in amusement, her bit jingling as she tossed her head. "Where are you from? You're not a brumby."

”Ironbark Futurity Stables,” he grunted in response, deciding to ignore Marie’s advice and stretching his neck out to touch the knot. ”Not that you’d ever be lucky to see the inside of such a place,” he scoffed as he managed to grab the knot with his teeth. After a few unsuccessful tugs and neck pains from the other rope, he finally let go and jerked his head and neck up and down furiously to loosen up. ”They’d probably turn you away at the gate. Post legged, small hip, 30 degree shoulder angle, hind pasterns a little upright... ” he listed, eyeing her up and down in annoyance.

Marie snorted. "Are you insulting me? Might I point out, you're the one who got caught by this 'post-legged' mare." She sneered at him, taking a dislike to the arrogant giant. "I guess wherever you come from, they don't prize their stock for intelligence?" Marie was quite aware that she was good at what she did. With Jason on her back, there wasn't a brumby that could outwit them both.
