Foolish as she was, Birubi was ecstatic to learn that Nevada still knew who she was. After two years away he acted as if she’d never left, though something was different but for now the filly remained oblivious to what it was. What she did notice were the pale pink of new skin, scars. Scars from what, how many fights had the great grey been in? The thought that she’d missed so much was making Birubi feel like a stranger to the High Country. It was no longer obvious she had been born free. No longer did she take care with her tracks, be silent when she moved and no longer did she fear men as much as a wild horse should.
It was only when Nevada spoke again did Birubi finally realised there were other horses here too. She gave a greeting nicker to the dun stallion, his black mare and the chestnut filly. Nevada wanted the chestnut filly, that much was obvious. Ears pricked forward, the filly resigned herself to sit back and watch what would happen next.

O o C ; I'm incredibly sorry about how long it's taken me to reply to this thread x3 I hope the post tis worth a read =3
- - - - - - - - - - - - Skittles' mind was battling against itself. One side was telling her to go with 'Nevada' - as the filly that had rushed in had so declared him - and stop being such a baby. All fillies left their mother in the end. And the other side was telling her to stay with her Mother, 'cause Koiji would feel bad if she was to lose her. Nevada was yelling about safety, and Skittles believed him, taking in and hanging off his words.
The sounds and background noise seemed to disappear from her hearing, as she began to make a decision that would start a new chapter in her life either way, one with a father, or one with her first real stallion. The filly turned her head from parent to stallion, parent to stallion. Her brow furrowed, and she let a small whimper escape her lips. She realized that the run dun was getting real agitated, and as Nevada greeted his other filly, with an embrace that couldn't have been for one of his daughters, the other stallion was trying to coax her and her mother to join him. As much as she loved her Mum, she just didn't know.
She was torn between something that would be alien and exciting to her, and something that was familiar and comforting to her. She swayed on the spot, part of her wanting to race over to the waiting grey, and part of her wanting to run with her Mother. As her decision began to form, she gulped in a big lungful of air, and let it out in one deep breath. There was a sadness in her eyes as she looked at her Mum, trotted over to her and nuzzled her lovingly. She rested her head on her Mother's shoulder for a moment that seemed to be over far too soon. Skittles nuzzled her way up to Koiji's ear before whispering gently ; "Bye, Mum. I love you. And I always will."

If God had of given horses the ability to cry, Koiji would have been weeping at this point. She'd known from the beginning that this moment had to come, but in her opinion, it had come far too soon. She sighed, knowing that these last few moments with her daughter would stay with her for a long time. She whispered I love you, and the sooty black mare's voice broke as she said ; "Now, don't say that, for all we know this won't be the last time we meet. Now go on, there's a whole world waiting for you out there, little one." smiling faintly at her daughter, she nuzzled her back and held onto her for a few brief moments. When Skittles turned to walk away, Koiij called out "I love you too." and watched her trot into a new life.
A proud smile replaced the sad grimace that was on her face from before, she knew that her daughter would be okay. Besides, she wasn't alone now, she had a stallion. Of whom she was yet to learn the name of, but she knew when she'd saw him that he was a good guy. She smiled happily after her daughter, knowing that she'd be sad later, but holding it together for the moment. Koiji whinnied to Skittles in one last goodbye before turning to the beautifully coloured stallion who was stood protectively before her.
She smiled at him, and reached her nose out to touch his, to let him know that she was okay with her daughter going. She saw Skittles look at her again, and she nodded, smiling gently still before whinnying to her once more. She hoped that there wouldn't be a fight now, the opposing grey had got what he wanted, and Koiji had got what she wanted, almost. The sooty mare watched the scene before her, taking some of, but not all of it in. She sighed to herself, still feeling like sobbing, but slightly better. Who knew, maybe a clean break would be best for them both...
Butterfly, butterfly, butterfly fly away...

Wurrin watched the filly go with a defeated air about him, there was no point in fighting if the little filly wanted to go. Even still, the urge to go after that grey and demand him to fight for the filly like a real stallion coursed through his veins. It wasn't so much that he had taken the little chestnut right from under his nose, no, it was more the fact that he had caused the little black mare behind him to cause pain. Something which Wurrin could not tolerate. He glanced apologetically at the black mare behind him, he hadn't even asked her to join his herd yet and already he had failed her. Turning around to face her he was surprised to see her extending her nose to his, a resigned yet accepting look in her eyes. Whickering gently he nuzzled her then spoke "I am Wurrin, named for the sun." he said "I am very sorry I was unable to prevent the grey from stealing your daughter. I hope you can forgive me. Can I trouble you to ask of you your own name?"
