OOC: Sorry Yaruka; I was just going to be away for a bit and wanted to reply to any posts before I left. I will remember that in future, thanks
BIC: Jirrand flickered his ears back, hearing Imbrium slip away back into the trees. He was not surprised that she was leaving; he had been rather rude. Still, it was not in his nature to try and rectify his mistake with her - he was just too proud. However, when he finally caught up to the brown mare, she seemed a long time in replying to his questions. "Tallerk," she whispered, and Jirrand assumed that she was referring to her name; after all what else could she be talking about. However her voice sounded almost pained as she whispered that single word, and Jirrand did not know why. The name Tallerk was unfamiliar to him, but he assumed that it had something to do with the pain that was clearly streaked across her face.
Jirrand was torn; should he leave the mare here to grieve or should he stay and comfort her. he had no idea what would be best, since he barely even knew her. She just looked so sad; and what could he possibly, an unknown and possibly frightening stallion, do to help her? So Jirrand wavered on the spot, unsure of whether he should leave or go and slip away into the gathering night.

OOC: Sorry you had to wait so long!
Tallerk came out of her stupor as she caught a flash of movement by the stallion. A jolt of fear flashed across her face, and she whipped around, afraid he was leaving. Tallerk wasn't ready to be left alone yet, and seeing the stallion's unsure face make her stiff with horror. He must know... He must know! Tallerk's thoughts jumped back again to her dead filly. A sickening feeling churned in her stomach, and she felt that now everyone in the world knew of the crime she thought she had committed. Unable to think about it anymore, Tallerk simply vented to her impulses, and sprang desperately at Jirrand. Before she knew it she had draped her neck across his shoulders, and let her head droop limply on the other side. Tallerk didn't know what possessed her to do such a thing, with such an unfamiliar brumby, but that's what she had done under the stress of her memories. Now she closed her eyes, wishing him to stay, wishing he wouldn't run away and call her crazy.

His slight movement; a question of whether she wanted to be left alone or not, obviously caught the mare's eye. He stopped; the expression on her face a mask of horror. So much pain, so much heartbreak were reflected in her eyes; and Jirrand couldn't bare to pull himself away. All of a sudden she sprang at him, and Jirrand shied ever so slightly; fearing that she was actually trying to attack him. But no, she actually lay her head and neck over his shoulders and stayed there; slumped and dejected. The shock of this action made Jirrand go absolutely still; never before had a brumby other than his mother shown the level of affection and trust even to touch him; and here was this mare so clearly distraught, who had come to him for help and comfort. Slowly, ever so slowly, Jirrand turned his head to the mare and nickered softly to her; his call barely audible yet filled with hope. He would stay with her for as long as she liked; until her heart was no longer burdened and heavy with sadness, and she could run carefree once more.

Tallerk relaxed almost instantly as she found that Jirrand wasn't trying to move away. For a few solitary moments she remained in a dazed state, slow breaths blowing from her nostrils, making small puffs of fog in the cool air. All of the desperation of the moments before drained away, being replaced by a sense of relief. Tallerk took in a deep breath, then let it out with a rough sigh. Blinking open her eyes, she felt she had got what she had needed. Tallerk then stepped back, lifting her head with a tremble. She began to move away, but before she had disappeared, she looked back. "Thank you." Tallerk's eyes shone with gratitude. Turning her back to the stallion, she moved off into the darkness, but not without whispering, "I'll meet you again someday..."
So why didn't Tallerk want to stay with this stallion that had helped her? Maybe no-one would ever know. She just felt that it was time to leave.
