Men come to the high country in the spring and summer months to graze their cattle. They also go on the lookout for wild brumbies to add to their stock horses.
Their are two playable huts in the Kosciusko range, each can house up to ten men each. Each man often has a horse or two of his own, and perhaps a dog. Cattlemen also might own some cows which they graze in the High Country or they simply look after somebody else's herd.
Because the space for men is limited, you may only have one human each at the current time.
If you would like to play a tame horse, you also have to play it's human or ask another member if your tame horse can be owned by their human. Tame horses can escape, though it is a challenge as humans are likely to track their horses to get them back.
Huts
The huts have few commodities; they do not have running water or any kind of plumbing or electricity, so streams, bushes and camp fires are useful. Both huts have space outside to keep cattle, though Dead Horse Hut has better grazing and flatter areas to keep cattle on. Both huts have stables and corals. Cascade Creek Hut is better for the Wranglers, and Dead Horse Hut is better for Cattlemen, though it's not law that each hut houses humans doing a specific job.
Cattle
The cattle are often grazed near the men's huts, though occasionally they can wander into the deeper high country if the men are lacking in their jobs. Cattle are non-player characters (NPCs) so you may play their behaviour if your character is in the vicinity.
Brumby Drives
Some men come to the high country specifically to catch brumbies, either for breeding or work horses. These drives are done on horseback, often rounding up many herds and driving them into pens constructed in steep-ridged valleys. The best specimens are collected and the rest are let go to roam free once more. Once a drive has been started by humans, staff must be notified to moderate. They will tell you which horses have been captured, depending on the skill of the men and the wild brumbies, as well as a bit of chance. Not all brumbies that are captured are kept, and there is the possibility of escape later on in the game.
