A sort of peace had descended upon the mountain called Kosciusko, one that was odd for the time of year for two reasons ; 1) it was summer, and the valleys were normally alive with men and their cattle, and 2) it was late in the afternoon and that was when most of the animals were relaxing, or in the foals case, playing before their mothers told them to go to bed. A light breeze blew across the rocky scene, and a mare and a stallion picked their way across the base of Mount Kosicusko. Amita raised her head happily, enjoying the feeling of the wind gently blowing her long mane from her face. Currong, her mate and best friend was a couple of steps behind her. She smiled back at him with a loving gaze. This had been the year they'd tried for a foal, and all seemed to have gone well for the pair.
Amita pranced happily ahead of Currong, occasionally coming near him to bump him gently on his shoulder. "This is wonderful Currong!" She sighed happily, looking out across the High Country. For a moment she felt as if she and Currong were the only beings in the world, and that nothing could end this little moment of peace that had desended upon them. She was awakened from her daydream when something cold and wet hit her on the forehead. She frowned, puzzled as to what it was. It wasn't long before little droplets of rain were splashing their way down toward the earth, and through the fading sun light, forming a rainbow. Aminta's grin seemed to grow even more ; she loved the rain. Little did she know that her mood was about to come crashing down from incredibly happy, to incredibly sad. Something was stirring inside her, and what she mistook for the foal moving was something else...
O o C ; I didn't manage to post in the breeding thread in time (again -groans- ) and Yaruka and I are going to play it as if Amita miscarries, if that's ok <3 ;D

Currong gazed lovingly after Aminta, watching her lightheartedness with affection. Not quite as carefree as the mare, Currong kept a eye about them, making sure there was nothing to threaten their peace. He had sworn to himself that no creature would ever disturb Aminta's blissful innoccence, that no harm should come to the pretty bay mare, and he intended to keep that promise. Aminta's words distracted him from his thoughts, and he nickered contentedly back. It was truly a peaceful afternoon. A few moments later, a light drizzle began, evidently surprising Aminta. Currong snorted softly in amusement at her puzzled expression, sometimes she was just too much, and he loved her for it. He reached over to give her a gentle nudge, whickering sweetly. The bay mare's sides were well swollen from the foal she carried, and Currong's excitement was growing with each day at the prospect of having a foal to share with his favourite horse in the world.

Seeing as she'd originally been reared by humans, Amita was a little naive compared to your normal High Country horse. Currong had was her mentor, teaching her of the ways of the High Country that most horses knew from birth, and she still had a long way to go. She followed Currong's example, and was on alert for anything that sounded bad or threatening - being in the open upon Mount Kosciusko and all - but for the moment, she heard nothing, and soon decided to relax a little. She saw Currong laugh at her surpirsed reactions to the spring-time rain, and she blew through her nostrils gently, pouting at him. She grinned, knowing that if she was to let her guard down, Currong would be there to help her out. Amita looked happily at the skies, watching as the blue was washed away by the grey clouds. She couldn't help but feel a sense of foreboding, like something bad was going to happen to her soon. She frowned again, and tried to stop thinking about it, but it wouldn't go, it still nagged away at her like a fly on a summer's day. She knew that Currong must have noticed her sudden discomfort, but she didn't say anything. It would sound pretty stupid to say that she felt like something odd was going to happen, because there was no proof... Aminta blew out a sigh, and turned her head back to her mate to nuzzle him.

Currong laughed softly to himself at Aminta's adorable put-out expression, nudging her playfully on the her neck. But his lightheartedness soon abated at the fall in Aminta's expression, for some strange reason the mare seemed oddly uneasy. Bumping her softly with his nose, he nickered to her comfortingly, wondering what could possibly be wrong. Concern gleamed in his mismatched eyes as the mare sighed heavily but she nuzzled him back without saying a word. The grullo stallion looked about him in confusion, he could neither see nor hear anything threatening, and the scent of the air was clear of threats. What had the bay mare picked up on that he had not? Perhaps she was merely nervous about her upcoming foal. He didn't know how to help her there, after all, this would be his first experience as a sire too, and he hardly knew what it felt like to give birth.

Amita's puzzled expression made a sickening sort of doubt turn her stomach. She didn't know why it was there, it just seemed to be something that was bugging her. She noticed Currong looking at her with worried eyes, his miss-matched gaze full of concern for the health of his faveourite mare and new prospective foal. From the way he was looking, Aminta guess that he was just as confused as she was, for not knowing what was wrong with her. She wondered if she should say something, anything, just to break the silence... But what if saying something meant jinxing this bad feeling, meaning that it might turn into something worse that just stomach cramps. Aminta shook her head again, and tried to clear it. She took in a deep breath and looked up at Currong with an appologetic smile. She didn't want him to worry. After all, it was probably nothing. But suddenly, she felt a jolt inside her and she whinnied in alarm. That hadn't happened before... She looked again at Currong, this time with a paniced expression upon her delicate face. Something was wrong, and now the mare knew it for sure. "Currong," She said, in a barely auidiable whisper. "Somethings wrong." O o C ; Tell me if this is a little strange, I don't know wether I've moved it on too fast or what not =3 But I hope it's okay XD

OOC: Nah, don't worry- it's fine BIC: At Aminta's alarmed whinny Currong tossed his head anxiously, now certain that something was very wrong. "Currong," whispered Aminta. "Somethings wrong." Currong's heart twisted at these words but he endeavoured not to let his panic show, for now he had to be clear headed for Aminta's sake. "What is it?" he urged "Are you in pain? Do you think the foal is coming?" He could do nothing more than ask questions, this was one danger that Currong could not fight or chase away from his beloved mare. The feeling of helplessness was nearly killing him. He tried to think it through, surely it was normal for mares to experience slight discomfort and act overly concerned before going into labour? But the trouble was, it was too early for Aminta to go into labour, Currong was sure of it. He looked about in panic, trying to avoid the mare's gaze so that she would not see the alarm that flared there. He needed someone to help, anyone. But who could help them really? Reaching forward he nibbled at Aminta's withers, trying to relax the sweet mare.
