OOC: Hey Yaruka - hope you don't mind, but Caity has been itching to get Kirrkie and Luz back to Tingara's herd, and I have had to come up with an event to warrant that - some sort of freaky rabid stallion trying to kill Quirindi so that Tingara can come and save the day. If you don't agree with anything here, then just give me a call and I will sort it out! Cheers
Kirrkie was contentedly grazing with her nose deep in the lush grass that grew around the little soak hole that she had spotted from the rocky ledge above. It had taken quite a while for her to work a safe way down, especially with Quirindi in tow. But eventually she had managed to get the little filly down to the bottom, along with the faithful blue roan mare Luz, who had always offered companionship to her.
To be perfectly honest, she was enjoying her time alone without stallions enormously - it was enormously more fun than hanging around all day doing nothing. And an awful lot more relaxing. Well, not really, since Kirrkie thought it her responsibility to take care of both Luz and Quirindi, no matter what Luz thought on the matter. It was she who had convinced her friend to come to Nevada’s herd, and then get them both captured to the black King’s herd when Nevada lost his battle with him. And THEN to convince her to leave with her again. Needless to say, Kirrkie felt that her’s and Luz’z circumstances were her fault, so she intended to make them right again after so much turmoil.
Quirindi’s impatient neigh brought Kirrkie from her thoughts and look down to see her rather indignant daughter demanding to play a game with her. Kirrkie smiled down at her daughter and told her indulgently that it was the middle of the day, and it was hot, and suggested that she sleep instead.
“But I have been doing nothing for days! When am I going to see some other horses to play with?” demanded Quirindi impatiently, glaring up at her mother with such fiery intensity that Kirrkie was not sure whether to praise her for her spirit or chide her for yelling at her. Perhaps allowing Quirindi to have a taste of the life of a herd was not a good thing; because Kirrkie wanted her foal to be independent like herself, but then again she had not shown this defiant spirit before meeting Durroon’s little colt.
Her pride was still hurt over the fact that the white stallion had chosen to take Durroon with him and not her. Sure, the older mare had been with him for longer, but Kirrkie knew that her coat made her more desirable than the brown mare. Perhaps that was his logic in taking Durroon and not her; for the older mare’s coat was dull and rather boring.
Quirindi continued to badger her however, and at last sighing, she suggested to Luz that perhaps they could all go for a wander and a run up on the higher Ramshead. And then maybe even venture over to Lake Coopatamba and it’s freezing, still waters that reflected the sunshine and the sky like nothing else.

No matter what the pinto mare thought, Luz did not blame Kirrkie for their somewhat awkward circumstances. Indeed, the dark blue roan mare rather enjoyed wandering the mountains without hassling males in tow. She loved Quirindi like she was her niece, and really appreciated the friendship of Kirrkie. With light amusement she watched as the little pinto filly hassled her mother in the interest of adventure, she supposed they could hardly expect anything else of the young horse when the example they had set from her since her birth was one of defiant independance. She easily agreed to Kirrkie's suggestion that they go exploring, and followed the two pintos towards the Ramshead, nipping the little filly teasingly on the quarters as she drew abreast of her to walk next to the mother and daughter.
OOC: Sorry it fails, I just noticed this thread and wanted to get a reply in NOW since it's so outdated. :/
