Appearance: White as the snow, with strange red eyes and no markings to be seen. Illanagi is what the natives call a ‘Nightrunner,’ though he has never seen, or even heard of, the deadly horses that originally bore the name. He can often be seen with a light burn or two from spending too long in the sun with his brother and several scars mar the skin of his lower legs. He is usually underweight and has a kind, pensive set to his features.
Personality: Lan is the calmer of the pair, preferring to observe the world and think for a while before speaking or deciding. He is often a mediator and is sometimes considered slow by his peers before they come to realize that he is only seeking to understand all sides of the situation before leaping to judgment. Above all else he loves his brother and would follow him to the ends of the earth if it meant they could stay together. This, however, would be much easier said than done, for Lan was born very weak and is often found to be sick, as well as being vulnerable to sunlight.
History: Illalangi was born to a pair of escaped domestic horses on the night of the full moon. His parents, sick of being ordered and tugged around by hard-handed humans, made their dream of raising foals in the outback real in the country of the Brolga, far from human habitations. However, it soon became obvious that Lan wasn’t strong enough to endure sunlight or continuous travel. They hid him away in a shady valley and eventually his mother gave birth to a second foal. Kaain was strong, fast, dark of coat, and the joy of his father’s heart. Lan and his mother watched from the shadows each day as Kaain and their father raced under the blinding sun; Lan wanted so badly to go with them, but he understood why he could not and was forced to make himself content with what he had.
After a year of peace, the humans came again and their parents were captured while Lan and Kaain hid in the shadows. Following this the pair has wandered the outback, seeking acceptance but never able to leave the night for fear of Lan’s condition. Many have rejected them out of fear for Lan’s coat, but they have never given up their search for a new home.
They return often to the Brolga’s Country.
