White snow tumbled down from a sky filled with dark, foreboding clouds, to land on the rocky surfaces of the Brindle Bull. Two horses, one a mare of eight years, the other a almost- yearling colt, were practically invisible in the snow that fell. Balendin nudged her handsome creamy colt, Barega, forward, towards a nearby cave that she had espied, it being their only possible sanctuary against the blizzard.
The wind whistled in the silver mare's ears as she entered the cave behind her son, stamping her hooves and swishing her tail to rid herself of half-melted snow. A colony of fruit bats, disturbed from their sleep, chattered angrily and swooped outside. Barega, tired but determined, snorted at the bats as they left, intrigued by the strange little creatures.
Balendin smiled fondly at her son’s antics and trotted to the back of the cave. Her nose detected the smell of grass. She had not eaten in two days, because there had been little grass left after the first snowfall, and what little they found she let her son eat. “Barega! Look, grass!” There were cracks in the cave floor, and grass grew there. There were a few large bunches, but mostly medium sized clumps strewn here and there.
The two of them began to eat hungrily, and soon Barega’s stomach was comfortably full. Balendin was still puckish, but she restrained herself, knowing that they would have to stay here until the blizzard stopped, and that could happen in a few hours, or even days. “Darling, I think a sleep will do you good. It is night, and you’re probably tired.” Nodding wearily, the colt lay down beside his mother and fell asleep almost instantly.
Balendin lay down herself, thinking as she stared out into the snowy night. It was about a year since she had last seen Taree, her beloved mate. They had been caught in a fierce snowstorm, and had been parted. Balendin, with her creamy coat, was practically invisible in the snow, and she had fallen over a snow- covered rock. Snow had started to cover her, masking her scent from her mate, and when she had become conscious again, she unburied herself, to find that Taree had gone.
Blinking, she surfaced from her memory, to see the outline of another horse in the blizzard. Could it possibly be Taree? Whoever it was, he or she was approaching the cave, despite the howling wind and chilling snow. Getting to her feet, the silver mare stood in the entrance to the cave, ready to defend her son and herself if need be.

Snow flecked the grey sky, drowning not only the ground, but also Taree's hopes of finding the one he needed most. The grullo stallion stood on a steep rock, carefully placing his hooves so he did not slip. His head was flung up into the sky and he gave another wild, lonely cry. He waited, nose in the air, ears pricked, hopes flying as he tried desperately to hear that familiar neigh that would wash away all his doubts and fears.
He waited....and waited. A lonely cockatoo screeched, flapping its alabaster wings in hop of quick shelter from the blizzard. When the wind began to turn into ice against his grey brown flanks, Taree moved off of the rock. He held his head low, and dragged his feet across the ground. It was no use! She was gone! The winter before had surely claimed her! He hesitated, clenching his eyes shut. But....no...he couldn't imagine Balendin being claimed by mere snow. She had to be here somewhere! Though he thought it, he felt his stomach drop deeper into the ground. It had been nearly a year since her disappearance...
He sighed, slowly dragging himself over the crunching snow. He needed to find shelter, even if he didn't want to. If Balendin was still alive, he was sure that she would rather find him living and breathing rather than a frozen corpse on the ground...
Taree wandered aimlessly across the frozen surface for the good half of an hour, before he found a warm looking cave. His stomach grumbled from the little food that he had been able to find, but he quickly ignored the sharp pain and edged closer to the cave.
The wind whipped his mane around his neck, making him look wild and strange with his lowered head and saddened eyes. He was so overwhelmed in his depressing thoughts that he only just saw the creamy horse that stood infront of the entrance. His eyes shot wide and he quickly shied back, a startled snort escaping his nostrils. He spun around on his heels, and stared at the stranger at the entrance of the cave. The swirling snow and wind obscured his sight, but didn't stop that flow of hope capture him once more. Raising his head he stared sheepishly at the creamy, not realising who it was at the moment. He took a quick step forward, where the wind was less sharp and where the snow thinned.
It was then that he realised who it was, "B....Balendin?!" He screeched, jumping back once more, looking as startled as one who had just saw a ghost. "I can't believe it!" He moved forward, a huge smile broadening his face, "Oh...my.." He muttered, "This has to be a dream.." He said to himself mostly, shaking his head. He had visioned many times how Balendin would look when they finally found each other. And now....it was just....unbelieveable!!! He staggered a step back, his body swaying a little, before he fell to his knees and blackened out.
OOC|| Sorry for the super crappy post and the total cliche. They should get better though.

Balendin’s eyes widened as the stallion came closer. It was Taree! Her delight turned to horror as he collapsed. Rushing out of the cave, she ran over to him and put her ear to his chest. He was still alive, just unconscious. The mare put her head to his back and pushed him into the cave. She pushed him until he was away from the entrance. Barega trotted over. “Who is he, mama?” The inquisitive foal asked. The silver mare looked up for a moment. “He is your father,” she replied. She had told her son all about his father, and said that he was a great grullo stallion. “I thought so!” The colt neighed jubilantly.
“Hush, not so loud,” Balendin scolded. “Will you go and get some grass, please, so that your father can eat in when he wakes up.” The creamy colt trotted to where they had found the grass and bit a few clumps. He dropped them at his mother’s hooves and lay down beside Taree. His mother was checking her mate for serious injury, of which there was none. She concluded that he had probably blacked out from shock, exhaustion and cold. That done, she left the grass beside the grullo stallion’s nose and lay down, with her back against Taree’s, to give him warmth. Barega clambered up onto his parents’ backs and lay in the middle, on top of Balendin and Taree.
OOC: Sorry for the super short post.

The chilling air that had whipped his mane around soon dispersed and the great grullo suddenly felt really warm. He let out a low sigh and went to roll onto his side when he finally felt something warm and heavy apon him. Slowly, he lifted his dark head up and around to find a young colt laying across him and another horse. Twisting his head around the other way, so he was in a more comfortable position, he noticed that the horse beside him was golden...just like Balendin.
Suddenly, it all came rushing back to him, the accident, the blizzard outside and then finally, seeing a golden horse that was so much like Balendin. His head shot up and he reached out his quivering nostrils and gently brushed his nose over her golden shoulder. "Balendin..." He whispered, breathing heavily out threw his nostrils.

Barega scrambled off his parents as his father started to move. Balendin turned her head and gazed into Taree's brown eyes. She had waited so long for this moment.
As he brushed his nose over her shoulder, she felt the familiar wave of affection for him. She lipped his ears gently and murmured, "Taree."
The colt watched his parents with fascination. Then he rushed over, and eyed his parents. "This is your son. His name is Barega, for the wind." The silver mare whickered softly.
She still could hardly believe that after all these seasons- the gruelling winter, the melancholy spring, tempered with joy at the birth of her son, the hot, dry summer, the atumn, where there was little else to think about other than her mate, and finally this winter, that had brought them back together!

"Taree." He heard the familiar tone in her voice and quietly rolled over to look at his first and only mare, Balendin. He pressed his lips shut and just laid there, staring at her.
He would have been content to just sit there and watch her until the world ended, but something small scrambled over to them. He tore his gaze away from her honey toned orbs and gazed at the small colt. His ears flickered a little in the direction of Balendin as she spoke, introducing the colt to him as Barega. "So this is...?" He asked, with wide eyes he turned his gaze over to the creamy mare. He looked back over at the colt and back at his mare. "Wow...I never thought this moment would ever have come..." He finally said, shaking his head in disbelief at what stood before him. He finally turned his gaze up at Barega and smiled gently, "hello there, I am Taree." He said, feeling a little bit awkward at introducing himself to his son.

Balendin felt a wave of affection towards her mate and her son. At this moment, all was right with her world. She watched as Barega trotted over to stand beside Taree. The colt whinnied, "Pleased to meet you at last!" He then lad down once more on his parents' backs, with his legs across Taree's back.
The creamy colt asked, "Father, would you tell me a story?" Balendin, who was gazing into Taree's eyes and feelin as if she could lay there for all eternity, could not prevent a smile fromn creeping across her face at her son's words.
