How Did You Come Up With Your Character's Name?

I had a thought when I saw Illu's Amazing work on that Brumby Name's Thread.

Well, how did your character's get their names?

I'll start it off, Koiji came into existance when I was bored and was making a random fan fic for the anime Wolf's Rain.
I wanted a authentic sounding Japanese name for my charracter in it, and so I found an on-line Japanese to English dictionary. After typing in random words I thought would make a good name for her, I'd only got one that I liked and it meant Azure I think (It was a while ago).
Anyhoo, I wasn't hopeful that I'd find a name I'd like and then I typed in 'romance' and Koiji came up as the third option, I looked it and thouht;; "Yup, that's the one!" And now my name on most proboards's is Koiji ^.*

Well, that's how Koiji came about, do share your own ^.^

Wolfs rain?! Really? I own the box set!!!

I know im not Illu but i'd like to share mine. I had Valatone when I took Valantines Day, delete the day part. I wanted something like that, and eventualy I came up with Val-a-toe-n
Bakoli I just thought up, and Althea is based of Athena(Greek goddess of war).
Cobalt is a colour that I like, sorta greeny blue.

Yaruka is an aboriginal tribe...somewhere. lol. I wanted an authentic name that sounded kind of like the books and since I love Yarolala I wanted something that I could picture as a chestnut and maybe started with a 'Y'.

Toboe is by far my favorite, then Kiba, Blue, Hige. I think Tsume is gay cause of his tight, leather stuff

Hmm...

Well, Damon's an Oldenburg, a very old German breed of horse, and he's a perlino, so, I wanted something to reflect that. I hit Babelfish and ended up with Lattendamon, which means Pale Demon, a meaning I thought fit nicely.

Rezar isn't an Australian name either. He was caught by an Albanian man so I looked up Albianian names for him to call his new horse. I picked Rezar, because it means 'Ray of Gold' and Rezar's a palomino (albeit an odd one). Once he got free, he decided to keep the name Rezar just because he got so used to hearing it.

Binda is a blue roan. So, blue, what was blue? I settled on water, so I went to the Mega-List where it was originally hosted and searched all names that meant water. Binda meant Deep Water, and I liked it the best, so I took it.

For Binda's foal instead of basing it on colour like I did with my other characters, I thought of what his mother might call him. Binda thought her foal would have to be brave and strong to live without his father, so I picked Burnum for Great Warrior (thats again to the Mega-List)

Brael is a Moon Filly, so I went to the Mega-List, searched Moon, and didn't like anything, so I looked up Night, still didn't like anything, so then I looked up Star, and I ended up getting Brael.

Garrong has three names, sort of...

For his real name I went off his colour again and searched Black. I got a few names, and I liked what Garrong meant (Black Wattle). Flowers are considered nice and lovely, but barely anyone would like bouqet of black flowers.

For his Sire's old nickname (which Garrong eventually ended up getting stuck with as well), I wanted something that doesn't mean anything friendly. So I looked up words like bad, danger and blood and didn't get anything I liked. I got Jirrand after I searched for Fear and decided to stick with it.

And for the last one, in the books creamy haters or the 'bad guys' all had names like the Brindle Bull Grey, Tin Mine Roan or the Stockwhip Bay. So, I went out and searched the name of some locations and found a place called the Balun River. So, 'The Balun Black' it was.

You asked, lol! I never said the answer was interesting.

all my horses have authentic (at least i think they are authentic) aboriginal names as i wanted to follow along with elyne mitchell's works and incorporate those kind of names into it. i have provided the meaning of all my horses' names into my applications. i will be using one of the names provided so kindly by illu for my newest character.

Dilali is about two years old and she basically is me in horse form. Her colourings are they way they are because my legs and arms are really tanned and my body is white XD. I came up with her while basically doing nothing in English one day! Lol
I chose the name Dilali because I'd found it for my story and I loved the name!

Tingara is the character that I am most proud of.

I came up with the whole story about two years ago after I had finished reading the Silver Brumby and had just been on holiday down the Yorke Peninsula (SA) and was in the car coming back. At first Tingara's story was going to be set around a certain place on the Yorke but then I decided that was way too unrealistic so location was changed to the High Country. So as I was in the car the whole story began to unfold in my mind while traveling home. I knew the main character was going to be a black stallion and the other characters evolved that day too.
I looked up an Aboriginal name list and picked out names that I thought definitely suited the characters.
Tingara (The sea) kept his name after the great move to the High Country because it just suited him lol XD
Tingara - The Sea
Maluka - The Boss
Those names just suit the characters I think.

Lol! I wouldn't have made the post if I wasn't intersted to know Illu Lol, I really like Corowa's name, it's cool ^.^ And Tingara Caity even Lol, your history bit's not long, ^.^ as Corowa and me said, it's interesting to know how the name's were made ;D

I agree Val, Tsume must be gay... the clothes he wears Aww, I love Kiba best, but he's closely followed by Tobole and Blue. I only like Tsume when he's with Tobole, he's really animated x3 I cried at the last episode :'[ I think they all went to paradise, or they better had of, I mean after all they went through
