Irawaddy was pleased to hear Althea's welcoming words "Thank you very much," she said "I it is very nice to meet you all. She laughed gently at Althea's wistfull words "All in good time," she said kindly to the young mare. She looked at Koiji's round profile and saw that she was expecting. Turning lastly to look at Coorah and Ally she nickered kindly to the foal "She is very beautiful," she said to her mother. She turned to Omaroo and gently nudged and prodded the small black foal farther into the clearing "Come on sweetheart, just a little farther." she coaxed to the exhausted filly. Omaroo stepped forwards on unsteady legs, following her mother trustingly. In all they'd been through her mother had never led her into danger. She wobbled into the center of the clearing, looked about her once, then flopped down into the soft snowgrass and promptly fell asleep.

Ally was fascinated with the other foal, and proceeded to flop on top of it as it lay down. Coorah snorted with amusement, but made no move to stop it. A filly could do no harm, and Ally would just ignore her if she did try to pull her away. The grulla filly sniffed at the other foal's muzzle and gave her a gentle nip, inviting her to play. Ally leapt back up and danced around, urging the other foal to get up and play.

Omaroo was asleep but awoke suddenly when she felt a weight drop on her back. Something sniffed her on her nose and she sneezed as the whiskers of a foal around her age tickled the insides of her nostrils. The foal got up and nipped her, inviting her to play. All thoughts of being sleepy forgotton, Omaroo lept to her feet and chased after the foal. It had been so long since she'd been part of a herd and she had had no chance to play with other foals since then. Sqealing in delight, she chased the other filly around the little clearing as their mothers looked on.

Irawaddy stood contently dozing by her daughter's side as the little foal slept. Blearily, she opened one eye when she felt the approach of the other foal. The little grulla flopped over Omaroo and sniffed her on the nose. Irawaddy snorted in amusement when poor Omaroo awoke with a sneeze. Her daughter had slept long enough, it was not yet night and she knew that she would have to learn to stick up for herself if she did not want to be disturbed. Thus, Ira let the foals play without interfering, trusting Omaroo to know when she'd had a enough and needed to rest again. She kept a careful eye on them though, she didn't want them wandering too far to the edge of the woods. Dingoes and all sorts may be around.

Koiji was looking fondly at all of the foals. Oh, how she wished hers would come... The amount of happiness that was rippling around the glade was brilliant. The foals were happily playing and the others were quite content. Irawaddy looked realieved that she had found the comfort of some other horses, she had obviously lost her herd. She suddenly felt very sleepy, and yawned and closed her eyes. When Althea's voice reached her in her head, she turned to look at her buckskin friend. "I think that we should, but not just yet. Lets rest a while." She yawned agian. "Sorry Althea, I don't know what's come over me, I'm just really tired.." Taking a step forward and having to stop to yawn again, the mare snak to the ground to lie.
"Would you mind if we rested here for a while?" She asked, jumping slightly at a kick in her stomach. Looking about, she wondered if restiing now was a good thing...

"It's fine, I guess we should rest for a while," Althea replied. She knew that Koiji's foal would be coming soon, and she probably needed more rest than she did. Watching the other foals, she found them interesting with their funny games. The mare couldn't really remember that part of her life, perhaps she had never played. But the sight made her happy, seeing the two fillies play and nip each other.
Althea too yawned, it had been a long day. At long last the sun was slowly, but it was, going down. The glare reflected in her eyes and she lay down next to her younger friend.

Coorah had no intention of going anywhere, and lay down on her side to have a good roll. Bearing the foal had deprived her of this treat, and it felt great!
Ally ran away from the other filly for a few meters, then whirled around to run past the other foal again, fleet enough to dance past without skidding or tripping over. She aimed a nip at the other's withers, then galloped for the other horses, tail held high. She loved this feeling, one that all the adults knew as freedom. She didn't know that word yet.

Through the bush a new sound was heard- the footfalls of a stallion. He was coming towards the creek with all those mares, all herdless except 1. This was the perfect chance for him to start his herd off, as long as none of them were silvers, moon fillies or albinos. He had no problem with any other types. Lifting his elegant head, Nandalie called out to them from where he stood- above them ontop of a ridge. The red roan noticed the one he had met on Mt Kosciusko, the buckskin mare. He stared at her for a while, then called to the others, "Come with me, come with me!" he charmed.
Althea's head was thrown up at the sound of Nandalie's call. She knew him from before, this handsome red roan was familiar. No matter how hard she thought back, she couldn't remember him. But then she saw the look in his eyes and was breathless. This was her younger brother, the last foal of their mother. He was the fire she had heard about when he was born. Nandalie, oh how Althea wished she had known him earlier. Whinning back to him, she flicked her tail. At last, the puzzle was finished.

Coorah leaped back to her feet after the blissful roll, aware that another animal was nearby. She stood completely still, trembling, ears pricked. Hoofbeats sounded, heavy and sure, which signaled a stallion. Coorah whickered quietly to Ally, who stood still too and watched her mother, her muzzle twitching. The mare whinnied a welcome to the stallion and moved in front of her foal protectively. Coorah glanced at the other mares before speaking to the stallion. "Greetings, stallion. I am Coorah."

Irawaddy couldn't help but notice Koiji flinch as she went to lie down. Noting her swollen abodomen Ira could tell that the mare's foaling would be soon. Gently she grazed her way over to the smaller black mare. Nickering gently she tried to comfort the mare "I feel your foal may come soon. It is for this reason you are so tired, do not worry. It is normal." she said in her sweet and calm voice.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Omaroo reared and spun around, chasing after Ally. Then she heard another set of hoofbeats and whirled around, a puzzled look on her face...none of the mares were moving....Just then a red roan stepped out of the bushes. Startled, Omaroo darted back to her mother.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ira too, had sensed the approaching stallion and was just about to call for Omaroo to come to her when her daughter skidded to a halt beside. Nuzzling the filly quickly to comfort her, she then raised her head to address the stallion "And I am Irawaddy, and this is my foal Omaroo. Greetings to you on the windfilled evening."

Nandalie nuzzled Althea gently, then turned his attention to the other mares. He glanced at both Irawaddy and Coorah. They both had foals, which might cause trouble. Thinking silently for a while, he finally lifted his head up to them. "Will you run with me, fine mares?" he asked in a gentlemen-like manner. Maybe here he could start up this herd he had been thinking about for a long time.
