Jamali was dreaming. She was following someone, a stallion. She could see him just ahead. There he was. The silver stallion the bush whispered about. She raised her head to call to him but then he turned, and upon seeing her disappeared into the mist. Jamali rushed forwards but he was gone. She was left alone again as the mist closed in her and she let out one more lonely cry as the darkness became complete....
Jamali awoke with a start as a soft nose bumped her side incessantly. She opened one eye to see her half-sister, Kala, nudging her awake. "Wake up sleepy head, it's time to go, the waters have finally stopped!" said Kala, impatiently. Jamali sighed, patience wasn't Kala's strong suit. She struggled groggily to her feet and shook herself free of her sleepiness. It sounded corny but she'd been having the same dream more or less ever since she'd first heard tales of the silver stallion some months ago. And now she had come South with Kala to find him. She felt a shiver of excitement go through her as she thought how exciting it would be to join his herd of mysterious mares, to follow the magical stallion the birds sung about. "Oh come on" said Kala with another snort of impatience. Unlike Jamali, Kala did not share these romantic fantasies about exciting stallions and ghostly herds. She had simply come on the journey for the adventure, and because Jamali was her best friend. She'd never admit it, but she'd also partially come from her own curiousity, despite her scorn over Jamali's mooning, she was curious to know if this silver stallion did indeed exist. "Alright," I'm ready said Jamali and the two set off, down the mountain side. Jamali felt an pleasant stirring go through her body as she felt the spring snow grass beneath her feet. Finally, after a week of being stuck near the top of the mountain, the two sisters were on the move again. Kala nipped her playfully on her side and Jamali joined in the game, kicking out in fun at the red roan. Then the sisters moved into a gallop together, kicking up their heels for sheer joy of the spring morning.
