Name: Ballook
Species: Brumby
Gender: Filly
Age: 3 yrs.
Appearance: Though Ballook is a direct throwback to Whiteface, the mare has inherited only some of the stallion’s heaviness. She is big-bodied but clean-legged, and stands at 15.1HH.
The mare has a broad chest and strong hindquarters. Her back is slightly long, and though her legs have good bone and flat joints, the pasterns are upright and she is base wide behind.
Her shoulder is sloping, and though her neck is long, Ballook is thick through the throatlatch and so finds it hard to get off the forehand and balance herself. The mare has a plain head, with a straight profile, but a good expression.
Along with his build, Ballook has also inherited Whiteface’s colouring, and is a pale blue roan, with four white stockings and a wide blaze.
Personality: Though Ballook is wise to the ways of the bush, the mare has no sense of danger or fear. To listen to the call of the currawong or the sigh of the wind through the snowgums, seems foolish, when there is snowgrass to be found and stockmen to mock.
Having been taught all the wisdom her mother possessed, Ballook is not one to move without sound or track through bush. The mare has no longing to hide amongst the snowgums or shy away from the wide open stretches of mountain.
Even if she does not listen to the messages of the bush, carried by the wind and spoken of by the mopoke, Ballook is still usually the first to notice a stockman well-hidden in the timber, the first stirring of storm and snow.
History: Ballook is out of a grey mare who is a great-granddaughter of Whiteface.
Genes: Ee/aa/Rr
Extra Comments: Ballook means ‘blue gum’. Related to a grey daughter of Whiteface. This is a reference shot of her coat colour.
