Derain's nostrils widened as he released a sharp breath and bore his teeth at the irritating fly that had been following him around for the last two hours. Perhpas it had finally become bored as it quickly flew away after his obvious display of aggravation. He sighed, half with relief that the insect's buzzing had ceased and half with pity for himself at the fact that he had nothing better to do than scare flies. It was a relatively warm day and Derain could feel several beads of sweat creeping down his neck. The sky was clear brilliant blue and a variety of birds were flying over the rocky land. Every now and then a breeze would ruffle his mane and cause the few trees' leaves to rustle. The young chestnut stallion stood alone, nibbling on the vegetation that managed to grow amongst the rocks. He lowered his necks to uproot one of the greener weeds that he had been saving lifted his head again to stare at the horizon. Of course he didn't enjoy being so idle. He was quite familiar with the feeling of boredom lately. It was killing him. Everyday, having nothing to do but wake up and wonder a bit further, looking for food and water. He groaned softly and began walking slowly east. What he really needed was some company. He was desperate enough to lock his sight on a bird sitting in a nearby tree. He nickered. Startled, the bird flew away. All he could do was shake his head.

Shod hooves scraped loudly against the bare stone, as long legs flailed wildly. A loud squeal shot through the filly's lips as she tumbled to her knees after her the ground gave way to her weight and the rocks under her hooves slipped and rolled away. A deep scowl crossed her features, and slowly the bay filly got to her feet, glancing down to inspect her now dirty knees. They burned a little with pain, but there was no sign of torn skin or blood. Which was good, that would be the last thing the thoroughbred filly needed.
Sighing, Shergar continued on downhill, but a bit more carefully this time as she had soon learnt that her long legs did not like to do what they were meant to on this kind of terrain. She was unused to all the rocks and the up and down of the land, it was something that was completely new to her and she hated the fact that she probably looked like some damsel in distress. The ground finally began to stretch out into a clear meadow, which was, as far as she could tell, rather flat. "Finally! I can stretch my legs!" She beamed, maybe this wouldn't be so bad after all? The bay filly squealed with delight and began to lope across the soft grass, shaking her head and occasionally letting out a buck.
Shergar would be an unusual sight to behold to many. She was not a brumby, and that was obvious with her long, slender legs, her sloping shoulders and the height that she was slowly beginning to grow into. Her coat was clean with only a few smudges of dirt, but under the sunlight it shone. Her mane was trimmed, as was her tail and riding upon her head was a dull, slightly worn out blue halter. Marking her as an escaped horse...a horse of man. Though, she did not understand this simple fact and continued on her merry way. A surprised bird shot out from beside her, squawking in distress and surprised, Shergar shied away from the bird; and ending her run in the meadow. Sweat prickled behind her ears as she twirled around, long legs flailing as she finally caught sight of something she had missed. A chestnut horse. Had he snuck up on her? She wondered, a frown crossing her features almost instantly at the thought. That was not very polite! Stamping her hooves with her ears back she marched over to the other horse...completely unaware of the age difference she barked at him, "what the heck do you think your doing? Scaring the feathers out of me? Hmm?" She questioned, snout reaching up close to his. The blue halter rubbing against her nose.
ooc. LOL...i love her <3 xD

The warmth of the sun was beginning to feel a bit too hot on his back. Perhaps it was time to find a larger tree to rest under, or at least to get out of this rocky wasteland. The stallion gulped and licked the pallet of his mouth several times. "Ah, what I wouldn't give for some nice cold water round about now," he said softly to himself. What was he doing? Standing there like an idiot. Usually he had no trouble getting himself to move on when he needed to, but this time he was stuck. Maybe it was the heat, or perhaps he was just lazy but his mind was slow and groggy that day. To the extent that he didn't even notice a young chestnut filly galloping about on a reasonable sized patch of grass. He continued to force himself east where he hoped he might find something to drink. It was about then, that he heard the cry of a distressed bird. Surely it could not be the same one? He bolted around just in time to come eye to eye with that bay filly. She looked disgruntled. He idly wondered if the bird had flown into her and for the first time that day felt like himself. He felt his ears rise automatically with interest. She was not like him. Definitely not a brumby, and what was that blue thing hanging from her face? Derain had always known that he himself was not of pure blood but she - the filly - was something else altogether. Her legs were long and thinner than even his and her body much slimmer than any of the mares he had ever met. He drew in her scent at once and stored it in his memory. It was his interested that prevented him from noticing the look of aggravation on her face. A second later she was storming towards him. "What the heck do you think your doing? Scaring the feathers out of me? Hmm?" She marched right into him, causing him to walk backwards two or three steps. Her voice, too, was different. This though was quickly drowned by the anger that flood through every inch of his body. He was probably twice as old as her and a few hands taller as well. What did she think she was doing?! He snorted angrily and locked his deep brown eyes on her. "What do I think I'm doing?", he did not raise his voice but his venomous anger dripped from every word. "If you know what's good for you, filly, you will get out of my way now." He could feel his pride welling up inside of him.
ooc: This should be interesting! =)

The stallion retaliated quickly, annoyance and anger clear as daylight on his features. Shergar gaped for a moment as her previous anger seemed to reflect onto her, and then she flattened her ears. She may have been young, but she was certainly not the type to put up some grumpy old bag who think he ran the joint. She never let any male rule her life, thus why they seemed to eat her dust as she went flying past them on the race track. Pathetic things they were.
Shifting her weight, she lifted her head up, staring down upon the chestnut stallion who looked a little taller than her...but she knew she could take on if necessary. She was big for her age after all, not quite at her full height, but potentially she would be towering over this fool, so he had better watch his mouth. "Don't speak to me like that Mister, male's like you learn to hold their tongue where I come from...especially when I beat them at their own game." She had dismissed any obvious difference between herself and the grumpy stallion ages ago, only focusing on the fact that he was just another horse in her eyes. Who was she to know that she was a strange sighting in these lands? She certainly did not know, she pretty much forgot about the halter on her face as well. Her ears remained back, and with a swish of her tail she moved forward...directly in front of the stallion who demanded that she move out of his way. A sly spark shone in her eyes as she swiftly took a left, they where so close she could feel the heat and smell the thick scent of sweat just radiating from his body.
"Silly boy," she barked, reaching out to nip him lightly on the flank. She swiftly pivoted away, childish laughter falling from her lips as she began to move at a steady pace across the meadow once more.

Derainhad never run into such a particularly irritating mare before, but she obviously thought quite a lot of herself. Several times had Derain watched as the men rode their horses across the outback and very few of their horses, he could tell, were those of his kind. Something about the young mare - whose name he did not know nor care about - reminded him vaguely of those horses. "Don'tspeak to me like that Mister, male's like you learn to hold their tongue where I come from...especially when I beat them at their own game." The thumps of his heart sped up immediately with rage. Youngand arrogant, he thought, almost frowning at the fact that he was becoming one of those many elders that had said the exact same thing to him. But no, he was never like this. He did not feel like speaking at that moment. He simply let his rage flow through his body, sending tingling sensation down his legs. She took yet another step forward. Derain wondered what would have happened had she don that to a more powerful stallion than himself. She swayed to the left suddenly. "Silly boy," slid from her lips. Oh no, he thought triumphantly. He had never been this bad. She bent down and aimed a nip at his flank. He stepped the other way at the last second and her teeth closed on thin air, though she obviously didn't notice as she began trotting away. "Hmm ..." he sighed quietly. Somehow she wasn't even worth it as she seemed to be desperately trying to get a reaction out of him. He did not like her, but he would not give her what she wanted and that was most probably to throw a fit and run after her. What the mare had no knowledge of was that Derain himself had some of her breed's blood in him. He was not the kind of stallion she would have met wherever she had come from and he was ready to wager that he would outrun her easily over a distance. "I don't know where you have come from," he pressed down the urge to add something insulting, "and I truly do not give a d**m what you believe 'my game' to be." His body became more tensed. "You are probably the most insolent filly I have met in all my years but I will give you a piece of advice. Not all stallions will leave you unharmed if you show them such unprovoked disrespect as you have shown me." He stayed where he was. He had a feeling that this wasn't quite over.
ooc: Sorry about the shortish length of my posts, I'll probably start improving again a little later =P.

The bay filly sighed, dropping her head to the ground to nibble at the grass for a moment. The chestnut stallion made no move to try and challenge her to the race that she was after...instead he just stood there, going on and on about some thing. She wasn't listening, she had quickly lost interest in the old grump and as a little butterfly danced by her face, she beamed and began to bound after it. The tiny yellow butterfly fluttered about, dancing to and fro, from flower to leaf, to grass. Shergar watched it with a lot of interest, she would jump and hop after it if it got too far away.
Just as the butterfly began to fly off into the greying sky, Shergar turned her attention back on the stallion. Having had the novelty of the butterfly wear off quickly. Her ears pricked forward at the rather painful look on his features...or was it anger? Why was he so angry huh? He scared the bird that scared her. Her ears flickered back then, and she trudged back up to him. "You know, you aren't going to be getting any filly acting like a grumpy old man." That was her advice to him, but she figured it was true. Unless he wanted to force a whole group of mares together, he had better begin to pick his mood up around her. She scrutinized him for a moment, her lips twisting in all sorts of ways as she tried to imagine him with a smile on his face...or at least a bit more of an attractive look. That scowl did nothing for him. Shergar rolled her eyes and sighed dramatically, "hopeless, just hopeless." She tsked, but there was a devilish look in her eyes...a playful one, but still mischievous at that. "You know, you might find some company if you actually smiled...you know, like this." She lifted her head and grinned widely at him, which caused a round of laughter to course through her at the thought of how ridiculous she must look.
"I'm Shergar." She had quickly forgotten her earlier annoyance at the stallion and had forgotten the rudeness he had displayed to her when she confronted him about scaring her with that bird. In a matter of minutes her mood had flipped and she was back to her bubbly old self once more.
ooc. lol, I'm not worried about the length of the posts <3 so it's all good : D, but i must apologize for Shergar being so...odd D: lol

It seemed that the thick flow of anger through his veins was beginning to wear itself out. It was waning as he realized that nothing he could do could change the filly's mind about her superiority. He shook his head slightly as she became enthralled with a small yellow butterfly, a bemused rather than angry expression now sprawled across his features. Eventually she finished and her attention returned to him. Derain, who did not much feel like standing around much longer, began restlessly pawing the ground, creating little indents in the rocky sand beneath him. "You know, you aren't going to be getting any filly acting like a grumpy old man." At this he raised an eyebrow(or rather the space above his eye where an eyebrow might go) but anger did not return to his face. "Hopeless, just hopeless," she said after a while. He frowned, not exactly sure what she was going on about. He had almost opened his mouth to say something back to her but she began speaking before he could. "You know, you might find some company if you actually smiled...you know, like this." Derain could not remember ever having laid eyes on such a ridiculous sight. She opened her mouth in a strange way and bore her teeth at him in what she probably thought was a smile. He released his breath sharply in a single hysterical laugh. She then stated that her name was Shergar. "Derain," he said shortly. He couldn't stop himself at that point. All of this was just so absurd. He burst out laughing, the low sounds were more like grunts and it sounded unusually rusty, as if nothing had amused him enough to get this kind of reaction out of him in years. When the laughs became chuckles and eventually faded away, he fixed his stare on Shergar, who might possibly be the most hilarious creature he had ever met. "Well, Shergar. First off let me apologize for whatever it was that you were upset about," he gave her the most remorseful expression he could muster under the circumstances, "I assure you I meant not to frighten you." He wondered whether he had satisfied her need to feel like she was right yet. "I hope that you will forgive me," he inclined his head slightly, figuring that as long as he was going to give in to a silly mare he might as well do it right. She had well and truly broken through his shell.
ooc: Oh dear, oh dear what a meeting! It should be a bit more pleasant from now on XD
