Jesse stood up shakily, and shook of the dust for a few seconds before trotting to stand next to Birubi. She was already growing fond of her, but shoosh! Don't tell her! At the snort, the bay mare flattened her ears and swung her head to aim the filly away from the creamy. "That is a monster that one of the male humans caught. Neither Alison nor I have any idea why he caught it. All it does is eat, sleep and make a nuisance of himself, Oh, and show off." She looked a little troubled when Birubi spoke of her heritage, but kept quiet. No need to make the little thing freak out over the fact that she would probably do that anyway, whether she wants to or not... Shoosh don't tell her!

Birubi glared at the sleeping monster and managed to poke her tongue out at it before she was steered away by Jesse. Even though she was a human loving horse, Birubi decided she wasn't all that bad. Suddenly the filly whinnied in frustration as once again the hobbles almost tripped her up. "If the human wants to be kind to me why on earth do I have to wear these painful things!? I don't see you wearing them so why should I?" she began to desperately chew at them and realised if she got through the leather (not likely) that she would be able to fit under the fence but then she remembered the indestructable rope around her neck. Grumbling she began to headbutt the fence gently out of frustration.

Jesse was pretty much an old hen to other horses, but acted like a grandma to foals who needed them. Like Birubi, who looked so young she wasn't even off milk yet. About 5 months, maybe? Honestly, she hadn't seen many foals in her lifetime, and was just making a wild guess. She was surprised at how alive she seemed to be, even as a foal, she was pretty much bouncing around the pen. Jesse supposed this was to do with living in the wild, and began to graze on the few straggly bits of grass left in the pen. Which left her mind to think and answer. "She probably didn't know they were painful. I think wild horses have to have them on until the humans think they won't leave. Alison tries not to hurt horses as much as she can, but as we all know, she's only human." Jesse snortuckled at her own joke, and took a quick swig of water before returning to her grass.

Birubi yawned the day had really worn her out. Making sure not to put strain on the rope and hobbles she lowered herself to the ground. It finally hit her how much she missed her mother. The warmth she gave her, listening to her heartbeat beside her until she fell asleep. It was with these comforting memories that Birubi finally slipped in a fitful doze filled with feverish nightmares of her capture and the human.

Jesse sniffed around the pen for a while, searching for non-existent grass, and slowly walked around the edge of the pen. She was pretty tired too, and nudged the ground with her muzzle to find a spot of soft ground. Eventually the bay collapsed heavily onto a patch of muddy ground, and rolled onto her side. Only domestic horses could risk doing this, she supposed, and full well enjoyed it the few minutes before she went to sleep.

Finally the nightmares got too much and Birubi woke with a start. It was late; the only lights visible were the far off stars. Maybe her family were off in the trees, now would be the perfect time for rescue. Pulling herself out of the dust Birubi began to go nuts. She hobbled back and forth screaming her little lungs out, desperate for someone to hear, for someone to rescue her.

Jesse woke with a start at the filly's screaming, and huffed as she rolled onto her knees. Her big brown eyes blinked sleepily, and the mare yawned before climbing to her hooves and giving the foal a light nip on the shoulder. "Quieten down, little one. You will wake Alison, and she'll get worried about you," she snorted sternly, and began to groom Birubi by nibbling on her back. This was what all horses did, owned or not, and it usually gave solace to frightened ones.

Birubi shrugged off Jesse’s grooming and continued to call out frantically. Every hour she spent here was an hour she could have been free. She reared and the rope went rigid, pulling Birubi backwards and down. She fell with a thud onto the ground, breathing hard. The burning sensation from the rope silenced her and she lay stunned.

Alison opened her sleep-glued eyes wearily, and glanced out of her square window. She could see the new foal, and her own horse, trying to comfort it. The young woman sighed. Just like a human baby, it couldn't stand to be left alone. She climbed out of bed and pulled a dressing gown on. This was long and soft on the inside, but sort of scraggly and rough on the outside, just like fur. It was burgandy, and kept her feet warm at night, on the end of her bed. Alison stumbled outside, and retrieved a bottle of warm milk from a heifer that was for some reason pretty close to the hut. This would probably taste just like her mother's milk, and Alison strode, more awake now, to the pen. Her new foal was lying down, stunned. She took advantage of this moment to sneak into the pen, making sure the gate was closed, and crouched down, right next to the fence. Jesse walked over but realized it was for Birubi, and trotted back to nudge the filly. She would keep on doing this until it went to Alison, and the pushes would eventually become shoves.

After much insistence from Jesse, Birubi grudgingly hopped over to Alison. She tensed her muscles but she was too sore and tired to fight or fun. She sniffed at the bottle in the human’s hands for awhile and then snatched it from her hands and began to throw it about trying to get milk out of it. When she found the right angle Birubi began to suckle greedily, all the while she eyed the human warily.
