The sun was bright and hot as always. An echidna shuffled around and a dingo howled in the sweet grass. The echidna wass near bowled over as a grey colt, with a darker mane, tail and blaze, spead up Mount Kosciusko. The echidna looked menacingly over at him, but he'd already reached the top.
Bakoli had just left his herd, along with his sister, whom he had no idea of location. He was just happy to be free, and gallop alongside the gang-gangs and run over echidnas. He wasn;t always like this, just when he felt like it, silly like a cockatoo. Usualy, Bakoli was silent and mysterious, just like the moon, which he admired. He smirked and let out his call, ringing it out all over the high country and hoping that someone might just hear it.

A white shape detached itself from one of the ever-present patches f snow on the upper reaches of the mountain. The stallion stood with a snort, warning the younger male of his presence. He had been blissfully relaxed until the youth cantered in and trumpeted out his arrival. Shaking to rid his pristine white coat of the snow-melt, he tossed his head and trotted over.
The grey colt was hardly a threat, but it would do well to keep up a respectful reputation. "Keep it down, kid. You'll attract the wrong kind of attention." The white stallion approached with a loose gait, his ears neutral but his tail slightly raised. He didn't intend to drive the other male off, but it was clear he was taking charge of the situation.

Ooc: Thanks for the signature tips!
Bakoli turned around as he heard a snort and faced the white stallion. He stared with his eyes but didn't dare fight him. He nodded, more out of respect than promise. Then he turned around and faced the wilderness with wild eyes, burning with passion to run free. He felt as if no man could catch him, unlike his sister, who'd been caught multiple times.
A little bored, he turned back to the stallion. "What kind of attraction do you mean? I have no herd and man is not around at the moment," he asked curiously. He almost smiled, but felt a bit childish.

Nevada snorted, bobbing his head. The younger male was fresh, unknowing for the many dangers of the outback. "No, man is scarce up here, but while some of us are friendly, I know of other stallions that might take the advantage to get you out of the running while you're easy pickings - so to speak. Until you're ready to defend yourself against the big leagues, I find its best to keep in the background."
He pawed a the ground, nipping at some soft mountain grass. "You're safe with me, I'm not out to cause trouble."

Bakoli snorted, but tried not to be impatient. "Atleast you have some sense," he said, tucking into the grass. "Do you have a herd?" he asked, after a few ancious minutes of silence. Even though he was a colt, he didn't really feel that he wanted a herd, but this stallion seemed to know all about this stuff. He looked up at the sky, looking at the clouds, then turned back to the stallion.

"Not yet. I thought I might try this year." He nibbled at some more grass. "My name's Nevada... And aren't you a little young to be out by yourself? This must be your first year solo." He gave a little smirk, a humorous glint to his eye. It was gentle teasing, he wasn't interested in bullying colts for kicks and giggles.

"I'm Bakoli, and yes, I just left my father" he added. "Do I really look that puny?" he asked, jokingly. It wasn't normal for stallions and colts to even talk, but for some reason, Nevada was ok with Bakoli. Most stallions got anoyed with his mysterious ways, and even sometimes anoying habits like racing ahead and spooking others.

Nevada snorted, giving the younger male a smile. "No, you don't really look so puny. You've got a bit more height to gain, and some filling out to do, but that'll come in the next year or two." Flicking his tail, he nudged the colt playfully with his blackened muzzle. "You'll turn out alright. Say, how about we team up? Brains and beauty?" He snorted. "I can be lead stallion, and you can be my trusty sidekick until you're old enough to hold your own herd?"

Bakoli thought for a while. "Alright, sounds good," he said. "And I guess I can wait one or two years," he added.

Nevada snorted in approval. "Good. Come then Bakoli, lets go find ourselves some fillies before we get old." He chuckled and reared a little. It was time to take the plunge and start the grueling task of finding, fighting for and keeping his own herd. The colt would be a help, an extra pair of eyes and ears. He wasn't a threat yet, but he hoped in the year or more it would take the youth to come of age, any friendship they created would hold enough to prevent them from turning into enemies.
Facing into the wind, Nevada set off at a canter down the slope of the mountain and into the valleys below.
