-------------
The other stallion had left, and things had settled down among the herd as night fell on the valley. Jannali grazed beside Kala in the cool evening air. The wind gently lifted her mane and she raised her head, looking longingly in the direction Nevada had gone. The slight nip in the air told her winter was coming, and breeding season was upon them. Jannali glanced over at Tingara, he was a fine stallion, and had been very nice to her and her sister but she was afraid that if she gave birth to his foal she would never leave the herd, and then would spend the rest of her life wondering if she gave up her chance to fufil her dream of running with Nevada. The thought of the grey stallion's mysterious travels filled her with excitement and she knew she was meant to follow him. She would have to leave tonight, find him somehow. She wondered if she should ask Kala to come with her then decided against it. Though she hated to think of parting from her half-sister, she knew the red roan was happy here, and couldn't put the pressure of choosing whether or not she wanted to come on her. No, it was better she simply left. She spent the rest of the evening, grazing in a melancholy silence beside Kala, then, as the other roan drifted asleep she began to graze slowly, but steadily, away from her side, hoping to get to the edge of the herd without the other sleepy horses noticing. Finally, she was at the edge, facing the direction where Nevada had disappeared not long ago. Looking back once at Kala, she forced herself to go on, slipping off into the darkness, her dark bluish coat blending perfectly in the dusky light so that she was little more than a dark, blurry shape among the tall grass and bush.
