Alexis rubbed the sleep from her eyes as she woke. She'd arrived late last night, snuck in a window and set up a place to sleep without waking anyone else. She'd left a note nearby saying she was a new wrangler here, to stop any panic for the others as they woke. She glanced around. Wow, it was really early. She went and got ready before checking on Killara and Elouera outside.
Bored. Very bored, she thought, before smiling at the two horses.
"'Morning," she said to the two. She checked on them quickly before approaching the tobiano stallion. "Hey boy. Want to go explore?"
He snorted and Alex laughed as she saddled him and swung onto his back. "We'll be back soon, Elouera. The two of us will go explore later, okay girl?"
Alex and Killara cantered off, Alexis admiring the scenery and landscape and laughing at the wind in her loose hair. She loved this.
They returned about an hour later. Alex dismounted and unsaddled Killara. She returned him to the stall she'd put him in the night before, next to Elouera. She made sure they had plenty of water, before giving them a good brush. She didn't want to wake anyone else up and didn't know what else to do, so she went to checking their hooves - even though Elouera hadn't been out - and then giving them another brush.

A young woman was astride a beautiful bay mare, done up with typical Australian gear; leather, leather and more leather. Leather bridle, leather saddle and leather reins. Only thing NOT leather was the bit, the saddlebags and the stirrups. Oh and the occasional buckle. Still, it was pretty brown. Leather has a weird smell, too. Alison pulled Jesse, her mare, up at the gate, and leant down to unlock it, relocking it when they had crossed back inside. She then rode Jesse to the corral, where she untacked her mare and placed all of the gear on the posts. Jesse snorted a thanks, and jogged to drink from the water trough, whinnying when she caught the scent of strange horses. Alison had read the note, and was pleased that another girl was around. She had decided to go for a ride, scouting out some more areas, before coming back to check up on the newbie, and she had spotted a few brumbies along the way. Now she strode up to the new girl, and smiled, leaning on the wall. "Hey, good to meet you. I'm Alison," she added, holding out a hand.

Alexis looked up as she heard the neigh and was smiling as the girl Alison reached her. She went over the name a few times to make sure she wouldn't forget. She hated when she forgot people's names.
'Hey," Alex shook her hand. "Alex Danes. This stallion here is my best friend Killara, and the mare's his close competition Elouera. I take it you obviously got my note?"
She looked towards the bay. "Nice horse, what's her name?"
She took a step towards the mare before glancing back at Alison. "I assume it's okay for me to pat her?"
Always check, she thought to herself.

Alison smiled warmly in return, nodding at each horse as they were introduced. Being asked what her best buddy's name was, the young woman gave her bay mare a hug around the neck. The horse snuffled at her hair, and Alison stroked her soft muzzle, before looking back at Alex. "This big baby's name is Jesse. She's a good stock horse, but I'm not sure what exactly she is. Breedwise, that is. But I am pretty sure there's some show horse in there. And yeah, you can pet her. Just make sure you're careful when trying to pat my other horse," she warned, gesturing vaguely towards the pens. In one of them was a pretty filly, pale white and only coloured with brown socks and some brown streaks in her mane and tail. "That horse is a brumby, and though she's gotten used to humans, I want her broken in before anyone takes real liberties towards her," she said seriously. Alison didn't like being all serious, but it wasn't as if she wanted her new friend to get bitten because she didn't know. "Anyway, did you hear about the hunt that's going to happen soon? You probably haven't, as you've just arrived here, but soon everyone from around here is gonna take part in a huge hunt for brumbies. Some of us are already going for random stragglers that might not get captured in the big hunt, and I thought I might do that myself. Say... if I were to do that, would you like to come with me?" she asked hopefully. It was fun to go after Brumbies, but she'd really like it if she could have a friend along.

Alex grinned and went up to Jesse, rubbing her softly. "She's beautiful," she murmured, before glancing towards the filly. "As is she. Elouera's a brumby, actually, though she's lived with me and Killara for a while now."
She looked up, mildly curious, as Alison mentioned a hunt. Probably not for her, but it would be a good way to get to know others around here - and even if she decided to stay at least she'd know where they were. She was instantly interested when she heard the word 'brumbies' though.
"I'd love to. That's actually partly why I'm here, my dad used to go on drives here and this is near where my brother found Elouera."

Alison gave her horse another pat on the neck, and headed for the house. She would brush up Jesse again later, and anyway, they hadn't eaten breakfast yet! "Hey, let's catch something to eat, then we can go for a ride, or whatever," she called back to her friend, holding the door open with one hand. She noticed that the bridle and saddle were still hanging on the rail, and gave a mental shrug. She could clean them up later.
OOC- Should we say they had breakfast and skip to afterwards?

As she saw her new friend walking away, Alexis smiled at Killara and patted his head reasuringly, before whispering so only he could hear. "We'll fit in here, boy. You'll see." She rubbed Elouera briefly as she followed Alison out. "Sure. I've explored a bit with Killara but Elouera wants in on it too," she grinned as she caught up to the other girl. OOC - Yep...

-after breakfast-
Alison yawned as she stepped out of the hut, stretching and blinking rapidly to try and wake up. Funnily enough, she hadn't felt sleepy at all before, but now she felt like taking a nap. The young woman scratched her head, and, shaking off the exhaustion, she bounded down to give Jesse an affectionate slap on the shoulder. "Ready for a ride, girl?" she asked softly, fetching the tack and placing it on the appropriate places on the horse.

The new girl spent an extra moment or two inside the door, looking around the hut slowly. She loved it here, but knew it was still at the early everything-is-so-new-and-exciting stage. It'd calm down eventually and lose some of the excitement, though never the appeal. She slipped out after Alison, letting the hut door close softly behind her. She hurried to the barn after the other woman and quickly grabbed Elouera's equipment, carrying them towards her.
"Your turn," she said as she got her ready, rubbing her throughout. The brumby would enjoy the trip, while Killara would get a rest. He had great endurance but they had gotten here late, after all, and she'd bounded up to him early in the morning. He could do with a nap, though she doubted he'd actually do so. Too many new smells.
"So, Killara, don't get into trouble..." she teased as she led Elouera out, patting the stallion's head softly as she passed him. Killara nuzzled the two of them, almost as if telling them to be safe. Alexis laughed and kissed him on the head before going out into the sun. She blinked as she looked into it, before smoothly swinging into Elouera's saddle. "Ready?" she asked the horse, before looking up and asking Alison the same thing.
"Ready," she said before asking, "are you ready?"

Alison didn't need to answer; the answer was all over her face. "Let's go!" she shouted, forgetting that the others were still all asleep, and slapped Jesse on her shoulder. The bay mare practically flew from her standing spot, galloping for all she was worth onto the trail that lead to Paddy Rush's Bogong. The Bogong was a good spot for brumbies; humans didn't go there all that often, and it was lovely and grassy.
OOC- sorry for shortness, I gotta go get dressed xD Someone can post at the Bogong.
