Long ago, before even Apollo was a young colt, the land was not four, but one. The kingdoms did not exist, and all were happy and at peace. The land was prime for living, lush and green and fertile, and the mountains provided much protection. There was a large lake at the center of the vast expanse of green, and even then, the healing springs, much sought after. All was well and good until one dark year.
The four countries north of Borea, Hesperides, Hermes, Thebes, and Imaculata, were envious of the wonderful land and peace Borea possessed. They plotted together, allying themselves to descend upon Borea in a bloody, veangeful attack. After this, they would split the land into four corners and live among each other in harmony, sharing the fruits of the earth. So finally, after honing their armies, they began the siege. Only miles away from Borea, they stopped to plan their attack. One country, Hesperides, wanted to attack at dawn; the second country, Hermes, thought sundown would be better. The two other countries, Thebes and Imaculata, thought when the sun was at its zenith and the moon at its peak, respectively. This small argument became a large hitch in their plan. Frustrated, they split apart and launched all of their attacks, one after another, in the way each country wanted. Though they succeeded in taking the corner each had desired, there was no peace.

Though the newer generations cannot remember what the feud was over specifically, there is still a riff between the four kingdoms. That hasn't stopped some of the younger folk from branching into each other's borders, though. Lun stallions claiming Eos mares, and even breeding with them to make half-caste foals that don't seem to fit in anywhere. We'll see what becomes of that, I suppose.
in the end, there was only
