Balendin nodded, and whinnined, "Thank you." she was a little sad to see them go, but she was also grateful for the advice. She turned slowly to Taree.

Taree nodded, smiling quickerly to himself. He couldn't help but feel proud that he had won his very first fight. He tossed his head up into the air and let out a triumphant neigh. He turned to Balendin, beaming happily, he waited while Tharra talked to the pretty mare, before taking his place beside her. "Tharra is indeed correct Balendin, and I will protect you with all my heart and soul, if you wish for me to do so." He quickerly added, he didn't want the filly to be pressured into running with him. It was then that Taree felt the faint pain in his chest and along his flank where Tharra had got him. He winced slightly as he moved his hind leg, testing to see how well the chestnut had gotten him.

Softly, Balendin nickered, "I would be more than happy to let you do so, Taree." She meant it. He had proved himself to be more than worthy, and the silver mare didn't intend to run alone for the rest of her days. Besides, she had to admit she had feelings for him, and what better reason than that to stay with him? She saw Taree wince as he moved his hind leg, and she nosed it gently, concerned. "You can still walk on that, can't you?" she asked him, worried.

"I would be more than happy to let you do so, Taree." His heart leaped and missed a few beats when he heard that, his first mare! And a very, very beautiful one at that. He shuffled closer to her and rested his muzzle on her wither, closing his eyes he imagined them both galloping through the freezing snow, her coat melting away. He sighed happily. Finally.
"You can still walk on that, can't you?" Her words woke him from his momentary dream, he blinked, feeling her nose brush against his flank. He lifted his dark head from her silver shoulder and looked into her eyes. He didn't speak for a moment, but then shrugged, "I can, but don't worry too much about it." He murmured, nuzzling her neck softly before pulling away. He looked up into the direction Tharra had gone. Where would they go now? Taree now owned the most beautiful filly in the whole mountains meaning he'd have to be incredibly careful, they'd both have to walk amoung the shadows of the trees and be as silent as the mighty silver stallion had. He was determined to keep the mare, to protect her from the grasp of other stallions. The thought of Balendin being amoung another herd, another stallion made Taree shiver in fear. He would never let that happen, he couldn't. "Where do you want to run to next? O strong and brave Balendin?" He smiled lightly. He would now begin to build a herd of his own, he realised, how exciting.

Balendin smiled, staring deep into Taree's eyes. "O handsome and mighty Taree, all I wish for now is for you to be ever at my side, and a quiet place to rest." It was true, that was all she wanted. She looked up at the sty. Patches of it were visible through the overhead branches of trees, a darkish grey. It would be dawn in a couple of hours, which meant that she would have to be away from places where stallions with prying eyes and jealous minds would see her. A slight frown flickered across her face, but it was gone in an instant. There was still plenty of time;they did not need to rush anywhere just yet.

Taree smiled quietly as she looked into his eyes to speak her words. "O handsome and mighty Taree, all I wish for now is for you to be evr at my side, and a quiet place to rest." He nodded, "I am here for however long you want me to be," He gently lipped at a strand of her forelock, "And a quiet place.....hmmm.." He murmered, he would need to find somewhere where no one would find them. "Come wih me." He pulled away and started to walk away from the creek. He practised being quiet as he went, treading on tussocks of grass. He slipped through some salt bush, only pausing to check that she was near him before entering a fringe of trees. He circled the area for quite a bit, before finding a small haven. It would provide some shelter from others while they rested for a couple of hours, then they would head off to somewhere else. "We will rest here, and in the morning we will head off to the Ramshead range." He decided out loud, looking down to find his silver filly.

OOC: Do you guys mind if I re-enter with Waiirri and co? we need a thread BIC: It was spring. Finally. The pale blue stallion could literally feel the joy of the bush around him as they approached the warmer weather after the harsh winter. Now a stallion in his prime, Waiirri arched his neck proudly as he walked, leading his two mares and foals through the undergrowth by the Crackenback. His swinging stride was energetic and he turned to call to his mares, urging lightheartedness on their part. Aruna was heavy with foal, very soon it seemed, Waiirri would have a third son or daughter. Bearing this in mind, he was in search of a quiet, safe place where Aruna would be able to find somewhere to foal not to far from the herd. And perhaps in the summer he would be able to go in search of Dinga and Nirrikie, the timing would have to be right of course, he would not risk his remaining mares. Waiirri's musings were interrupted when he caught the sudden scent of two strange horses. Stopping abruptly, he signaled with his ears for his herd to be quiet. He had definately never smelt these two, and he would have preferred not to encounter them now. But they must have smelt his herd by now, for they were until now downwind, and thus had had the advantage in detecting his approach. Waiirri flicked his tail uncertainly, he did not want to cause Aruna undue stress when she was this close to foaling, and he certainly didn't want to get into a fight over his mares. But was it not best to approach the other horses, rather than wait to be approached? He would not be the one caught off his guard. So carefully he moved on, walking as quietly as he could manage through the bush, he had never quite mastered Warring's skill at stealth. Stopping in a thick grove of snowgums, he peered out at a stallion and mare, both young it appeared. Not likely a huge threat. And the mare was silver, like Doowi. He wondered what the confident mare would think of that, had she ever met another horse the same colour as her? Asking his herd to stay put behind him (though he doubted if either mare would) he stepped out of his cover with a low whinny of greeting. "Greetings O Grulla Stallion and Silver Mare, my herd and I are just passing through. We bear not hostility against you, if you in turn do not threaten us."

Waiirri's happiness was, unfortunately, making no impression on Aruna. In fact, she was about to yell out, "I'm TIRED!" when the roan stallion alerted her to be quiet. Aruna sighed; old Waiirri, with all his skepticism; but did not object. She did make a half-hearted attempt to be silent, but her bulging belly did not work to her advantage, and int he end she just barged through the bush without care. As Waiirri hesitated in the snowgums, Aruna finally discovered what he was fussing about: a pair of young brumbies. She snorted to herself; silly lovey-dovey juveniles, that was all they were. Aruna made no objection as Waiirri took his leave, as she was glad to have some rest. However, she did make a point to shove rudely past Doowi, in order to get the best view. And with that Aruna watched the proceedings with mild interest, while keeping a careful watch on her filly.
Mirrin tagged along with the rest of the herd, her gait a delighted prance, her eyes bright. She was burning with the same sprightly energy as Waiirri, and returned his call with a sweet whinny. It was her second spring, and something about the fresh green foliage and warm sunlight got her excited. Unable to keep still, Mirrin frisked around the herd, diving in between brumbies to give one a playful nudge of her muzzle. She was concluding a nip to Doowi's colt when Waiirri gave some sort of signal, and Mirrin immediately froze. She looked up at her father with a mixture of curiosity and fear. What was it that lurked ahead? As Waiirri stopped the herd, Mirrin slunk past the mares and peeped cautiously around him, her ears pricked and eyes searching. There! Mirrin tossed her head excitedly as she caught sight of two new faces. But Waiirri obviously ment for her to stay put, so she promptly obeyed, though not without some reluctance.

"We will rest here, and in the morning we will head off to the Ramshead range." Balendin nodded gratefully, and was just falling into a doze when she caught the scents of quite a few strange horses, several mares, foals and a stallion. She was just wonderning what to do when they drew closer, and the stallion spoke. "Greetings O Grulla Stallion and Silver Mare, my herd and I are just passing through. We bear not hostility against you, if you in turn do not threaten us." Balendin nickered softly in acknowledgement and agreement, but she knew it was really up to Taree. She stood at his side, wondering exactly what he'd say.

Taree moved in closer to Balendin, the heat of her body warming his muscles up slightly. He placed his head across her back in a sweet, loving way. Feeling very proud to own such a mare. He was about asleep when the crackling of twigs and other things made him jerk his head up. He tested the wind for a moment, the many new scents catching him by surprise. Immediately Taree took his place slightly infront of Balendin, ready to protect her if need be. His muscles tensed as the intruders approached as quietly as possible. Then an older blue roan stallion came barging through the thick haven of snow gums. Taree moved infront of Balendin and did not relax when the stallion spoke, his eyes searching the rest of the mob. His ears twitching and swivelling in all directions, pausing on Balendin as she nickered an agreement to the older stallion. Relaxing a little at her confidence Taree inclined his own dark head. "Greetings O blue roan and herd." He quickerly ran his eyes over the mob, falling on a few faces before turning back to the blue roan, "I wish for no harm to befall any of us." He confirmed, not moving from infront of Balendin.
