Early morning sunlight shone down on a large clearing, where two brumbies grazed. The first, a handsome bay stallion, lifted his head, and trotted closer to the other horse, a mare. He could smell the scent of another horse-most likely a stallion-and he was prepared to defend his mare against anyone- or anything.
Kaie let his gaze travel round the trees at the edge of the clearing. Twice he thought he heard the crack of a twig, and he was certain he could scent another horse, so he reared up and gave a neigh that was both a warning and a challenge.

Sia looked up as Kaie trotted over to him. She rolled her eyes and went back to grazing, quickerly moving in another direction. She only stopped when Kaie thought he'd be smart and scare off any other wandering brumby in the district. Thats something Sia had learned of the bay stallion; he liked to pick fights.
Flicking her tail in annoyance, she moved over to Kaie, her ears back. She gave him a sharp nip on the shoulder, in the same way she'd done it when he thought he'd be smart and back chat that handsome white stallion, Nevada. "You idiot, you my as well announce to the whole High Country that we reside here." She snapped. She wasn't in the mood to put up with the stallion's testosterone problem. "It was probably just a bush creature." She added after a moment, feeling she was being a little harsh. She moved closer to him and quickerly nuzzled his muscular shoulder blade. "Come on, run with me!" She beckoned, throwing her head into the air, she trotted away in high steps.

Kaie nuzzled her shoulder affectionately. "Maybe, but I could have sworn it was a horse." he nickered. As she trotted away, he broke into a gallop, calling to her, "I can't help wanting to fight; it's in my blood, it's the meaning of my name."
He had grown to love the feisty but somewhat bad-tempered filly. Even if his herd grew in size, and he won a silver filly or mare, Sia would still be his favourite. To him, nothing was more beautiful than her sleek chestnut shape. He was so lucky to have her.

She smiled, watching the handsome bay gallop past her down the flat. Tossing her head she gave a hearty buck before chasing after him. It didn't take her long to catch up to him, as her long slender legs were built for speed. She passed him, only slowing down to face him. She reared, then dodged out of the way, shaking her head in a fiesty way. She slowed down to watch him approach her. She definately had grown to admire the bay. Even if it wrecked her pride to even think about it.

Kaie skidded to a halt, grinning. Trotting over to Sia, he touched his nose to hers, gently. Then he neighed, "What do you want to do now? Keep running?" He gazed out over the hills, plains, and valleys that had once belonged to the Brolga. This was a good place for him and Sia. Plently of space for running, plenty of grass for grazing, and plenty of trees to shelter them if it rained.

OOC: Just so long as Kaie doesn't kill him alright? XD
Jrrand had been plodding slowly along in the morning’s bright light; both his eyes almost closed in drowsiness. He was making his way back to where he and Tallerk had spent the night, after getting a refreshing drink from a soak just near by. The world around him was quiet; not silent, for there were birds calling softly and the peaceful swish of branches. The beauty of the high country was that it could seem as though you were the brumby in existence. But then a stallion’s loud challenge rang out, and Jirrand stopped; instantly tensing. Apparently not so alone after all. Internally he cursed himself for being so careless and cocky as to assume that he was the only brumby aside from Tallerk in the immediate area. Far more carefully now, he stepped towards the tree line to see who had challenged him.
An older blood bay stallion was rearing up in a little clearing; his coat shining in the early morning light. Beside him was a handsome bay mare; and Jirrand couldn’t help but notice how lovely she also looked in the new morning’s light. Jirrand smiled slightly to himself as the mare nipped the stallion and gave him a stern telling off for being so loud. So she was a feisty one was she? It almost broke his heart to see mares so oppressed by stallions that they wouldn’t dare speak unless spoken to. It would truly be a horrible existence.
And then they started to run. If the mare had been pretty standing still; she was beautiful in motion, and Jirrand could see that there was something not quite brumby-ish about her now. Perhaps it was her refined body shape; or the fluidity of her movement? But whatever it was; Jirrand concluded that she was an escaped horse. And a fast one too! Jirrand thought that she could endanger a herd, but if she had survived this far with a bay stallion; surely no man was coming to get her. They probably didn’t even know where to start looking.
Jirrand’s mind wandered to the possibility of taking her for his herd. She and Tallerk probably would get along like wild fire. They had such similar personalities it seemed… But would Tallerk approve of him fighting an older, more mature stallion to get her? Especially if he lost? Jirrand knew that she was well hidden in their little hidden hiding place and that she was plenty wise enough to look after herself should something go wrong… She would definitely scold him later for acting without her consent; but Jirrand was feeling somewhat cocky on this bright, crisp morning, so, as dramatically as possible, he threw up his head and let out a wild whinny; a reply to the blood bay’s challenge, and stepped proudly out of the trees, his pale coat turning to molten silver gold in the sunlight.

OOC: Thanks, Tiggs! BIC: Kaie snorted as the strange colt stepped out into the clearing, seeing the other's envious glance at Sia. No one, horse, bush creature or man, would take his mate away from him unless that was what she wished. He looked his opponent over quickly; he seemed to be a mixture of both nightrunner and silver brumby, and looked to be only a couple of years old. That did not matter: looks didn't account for how well he could fight. He pawed at the ground with one hoof, a thunderous neigh welling up inside him. Moving in front of Sia, he reared up, roaring a challenge to this colt who would dare try to take his mare. "Come and fight, colt!"

Sia stopped short and glanced at Kaie, she reached her nose out to touch his. "I-" She was cut off by the noise of a challenging stallion. She whipped her head around to see the most magnificant, most handsome stallion she ever seen. Though this was definately not love at first sight, it was more an infactuation. Sia watched him, her ears pricked forward, there was something not quite right about him, but she knew that she'd find out sooner or later. Sia siddled out to the side to keep watching the golden cremello stallion when Kaie stepped infront of her protectively. Her chestnut coat quivered in excitement when Kaie returned the challenge.
If this stranger won her, she'd be running with the most handsome horse in all the High Country, but if Kaie won, she'd be running with the stallion she admired the most. She was so torn. It was either the handsome, mysterious stallion or the loud mouthed stallion whom she loved the most.

OOC: Ballie, my mare Tallerk isn't noticeable yet. Pretend she isn't here for the meanwhile. ^^
The fresh morning air was exhilarating, and the temperature perfect; not too hot, not too cold. It was a time that most creatures loved, when the day had just begun, and the birds seemed to sing from joy. In fact, Tallerk could hear them now, chirping away among the trees; big trees, ones that closed her off from the outer world. It was as the brown mare wanted it. The area was quiet and concealed, but still close to a stream and wide open meadows, great for hearty grazing. But for now Tallerk was making do with the scraggly grass underneath the snowgums, partially because she was waiting for Jirrand to return, but mostly because she felt like being unheard and unseen. Maybe one couldn't tell by the nonchalant way the brown mare clipped the grass, but she was currently in a bad mood. Bits and pieces of her past kept flitting through her mind, haunting memories she wished she could forget. Those old feelings, guilt, shame, and anger, they were all flooding back too fast to stop. A picture of a dead filly, laying crooked and cold on the ground, made Tallerk tremble. She did hear the bay stallion's clarion call, but it was vague, and blended seamlessly in with other half-felt senses.
Where is Jirrand? It was almost a desperate thought. Tallerk was loosing the battle, and she knew that if she could just lean against the great nightrunner one more time, everything would be all right. Tallerk lifted her head and scanned the area around her, ears pricked. But that familiar stark white figure never came, and as hard as she tried, she couldn't here his light footfalls or his gentle whicker. Becoming wilder, more distraught, Tallerk tossed her head and stamped a hoof. Something wasn't right.... Something wasn't right... These thoughts, if they could be called such, gripped Tallerk, when suddenly she stood still. Was that Jirrand's great voice she had heard, or was her mind playing tricks again? It didn't even matter anymore; all Tallerk knew was that she needed the nightrunner now, and so she charged off in the direction of the sound.
This wasn't an easy gallop, nor the motion of a horse ready to fight; it was a movement tense and wrought with fear, accented by eyes that glared white around the edges. Tallerk leapt through the woods at a fearful speed; at times she came close to falling, which could easily mean a broken leg, and thus the end of a life. But when the time came to leave the woods behind, to enter the great and grassy clearing, Tallerk hung back in the shadows. There were strangers about; Tallerk could see them now, a big bay stallion, and his single mare. Jirrand! Tallerk's ears pricked instantly as she spotted the handsome, if not fearsome, nightrunner. And he was challenging the bay.
