Summer barked a laugh. "Got you in this mess? S'yer own darn fault you decided to show off and act all high 'n' mighty wi' the wrong horse!" She snickered, glancing out a small window towards the corral, where Rolodex was still galloping circles, kicking up his heels and whinnying loud enough to call brumbies down from the hills. Of course, all the horses knew where the men lived, and kept well away. Summer crossed her arms, glaring at him firmly. "You'll go back to your own cabin even if you have to walk. And don't even think about pulling the oh - I'm - so - in - pain - and - dear - Summer - won't - you - hold - me - while -I - pass - out card," She snapped, huffing in annoyance. "'Cause it won't work. I'm a cold hearted tart, but you should know this by now, yes?" Her voice was dry, but slightly amused.

Jason huffed, a smirk curling the left corner of his mouth. He stood, crossing his arms and mirroring the irate young woman. He took a step forward, grinning as he towered over her with his 6'2". "Faint? D'you think I'm some kinda Sheila? Give us a chance, love. A cold-hearted tart you may be, but you wouldn't turn down a man in need would you?" His palms were beginning to itch, and he brought them up in front of him, facing the bandaged palms toward Summer.
"I'm injured!" He fixed his blue-green eyes on her, doing his best to look earnest. "Go on, just one night and a couple of meals, then I'll get out of your hair."

She rolled her eyes and sighed, pushing his shoulder lightly. "You're not even injured that bad, but since mine get on so well with your mare, I s'pose you can stay the night," Summer admitted tactlessly, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. "And close those darned blue eyes - they're too doe-like for me, Jazzo," She added, turning around and heading out the door. It was one thing to leave Rolo alone for a few minutes when he was on a rampage like this, but it would be downright dangerous to ignore him like this for longer. Summer knew she had to calm down the horse before he did himself - or the others - some serious damage.

Jason grinned, full-wattage, and shrugged off his jacket. Draping it over the stool he'd been sat on while Summer tended to his burns, he crossed the cabin and stepped outside into the afternoon sun. Knowing he wasn't going to be out in it for long, the feeling of the sun on the bare skin of his arms was luxurious and comforting.
Having originally hooked his thumbs through the belt loops of his jeans and finding that the new friction burns on his palms unappreciated the posture, Jason walked over to the fence of the corral with his arms swinging at his sides. He resisted the urge to curl his hands into fists to quell the subtle itching on his palms. He rested his forearms on the fence, resting his chin on one tanned arm as he watched Summer work with Rolo.
He purposefully kept his eyes on Summer, looking doe-like for her as he watched with a serene expression on his face. She was fun to taunt and jibe, though he didn't want to push her so far. After all, she owed him food.

A small husky puppy careened out from the corner of the cabin, yipping around Jason's legs before trotting towards Summer. She sighed and scooped him up in her arms, cradling the bi-eyed puppy close. "Argh, Metro, you're gonna get your skull bashed in one of these days," She cooed, chucking him under the chin. Summer turned, striding briefly back towards Jason. "Jazzo, can you take care of my pup here for a moment while I calm Rolo down?" She inquired, but without waiting for an answer, she put Metro in Jason's arms. The puppy yipped and squirmed loudly, but Summer simply smirked and turned, jogging back towards the ring.
The rope had been cut loose earlier, but Rolo was still galloping circles in the ring. Summer hoisted herself over the fence, scaring Cosmo slightly as she landed. The mare snorted with indignity and tossed her head, cantering sharply sway. Summer rolled her eyes, glancing over at Rolo. She spoke quietly to the horse, approaching slowly. Rolo eventually came to a halt, breathing heavily. Summer made sure she was in full sight before she approached him, running her hand softly along his sweaty neck. "Ay, what a rude beast you are," She scolded quietly, petting the frightened horse repeatedly.

Taking the pup, he struggled for a while with the squirming mass of limbs before he managed to tip the little blighter upside down. Cradling the young dog, his flailing legs could find no purchase. Jason chuckled and fuzzed the animal's ears. "Is he going to be a cattle dog, or just another pet?" He asked as Summer petted Rolo's neck.
He watched the roan prance away, and wondered how well she would do in brumby drives if she shied at her owner. Looking back to the gelding, he too began to feel the effects of the sun as a wave of heat passed over his head. Grumbling, he carried the husky pup back into the cabin, pushed him through the doorway and closed to door behind him. Standing on the porch, Jason put his forearm to his forehead, finding it wet with sweat. He was in good condition, and he rarely perspired from doing nothing, especially in autumn.
His palms under the bandages were almost burning. Sitting on the steps down from the porch, he thought resting in the shade would help. Instead, the darkness of the shade seemed to encroach on his vision, drawing odd geometric shapes in front of his eyes. He closed them, hoping that would help but the dizziness swept over him.
Refusing to acknowledge what was happening, he stood to return to watching Summer. Before he made it half way his hearing muted, his legs turned to jelly and he fell heavily onto the dusty ground. Sprawled there, he saw, heard and remembered nothing.

Summer glanced back at Jason, shrugging. "He's been doing some herding around here - I'd been considering training him, not sure yet," She replied absently, focused on Rolo. She watched for a moment as he moved back towards the cabin, then shrugged and gently lead Rolo around to the fence by clucking and talking softly. Once he approached the fence, she hopped onto the first few rungs and slid onto his bareback. Rolodex snorted softly and began walking at her urging. Satisfied that he was calmed down, Summer began to trot him in loose circles that vaguely resembled a barrel-racing pattern inside the corral. Enfilade watched warily from his corner as he herded Cosmo closer to him. The frivolous mare tossed her head, making a big show of avoiding his urging until he nipped her on the withers. Cosmo whinnied sharply, kicking out with her back legs at Enfilade and cantering off. Rolodex stayed calm, continuing his trotting as bidden by Summer. She cooed softly at the horse, petting his neck in congratulations.
Distracted by her success, she didn't notice Jason's plight until she heard him crumple to the ground. "Argh. Jazzo, too weak for the heat?" She teased, trotting Rolo up to the fence. When she saw his eyes were closed and she could barely detect the rise and fall in his ribcage, she vaulted off Rolodex and scrambled over the fence. Summer jogged to his side and kneeled beside him, gently prodding him. "Jazzo? Jazz? Jason?" She hissed, shaking his shoulder. Finally realizing he wasn't getting up any time soon, she growled softly. "Yer huge, man! How do you expect me to do this?" Summer complained under her breath, stooping down and heaving him onto her shoulder as best as she could. With a lot a work and more dragging than lifting, she managed to get him inside the cabin.
Summer sighed and let him rest on the floor while she wandered into the kitchen to grab a cool rag. She grabbed an old scrap of fabric, moistened it, and headed back towards him. Once she reached his side, Summer sighed and kneeled down, mopping his face with the rag. She wasn't quite sure what to do, so she left the rag on his forehead and stood up, backing up a few paces before sitting down cross legged in the corner, watching him with her chin in her hands. It would probably be a long time before he woke up.

He mumbled a little as she mopped his forehead, staying firmly in his state of unconsciousness. He was beginning to build a fever, which would worsen before it faded. He'd contracted an infection from the wound on his hand, though it wouldn't prove fatal. Becoming a little more active though still unconscious, Jason's head lolled to the side and the wet rag fell with a splat to the floor beside his head.

Summer grumbled impatiently, crawling across the floor to the unconscious Jason and replacing the rag on his head. As her fingers brushed his forehead, her eyes widened slightly. He was burning up. Fever... fever... sweat it out, right? Summer sighed softly and removed the rag from his head, slowly unbuttoning his hot flannel shirt and peeling it off. She mopped his chest and arms as well, nibbling on her lower lip. The girl allowed herself a cursory glance at his upper-half, which was nicely toned and very... very... Summer quickly looked away, sitting back down nearby and replacing the rag on his forehead.

Jason stayed in very much the same condition for hours but when evening began to draw in, he started to thrash and grumble as the worst of the fever hit. Thankfully he was not awake for the event, as it would have been painful and at the worst degrees of uncomfortable. His hair by now was slick with sweat, and his infected palm burned red. He almost whined as the worst waves of pain washed over him, his hand throbbing.
