hey Tingara- Barina's been quite inactive for a while so I thought I'd start a new thread for her and Maluka here ----------- BIC: Barina awoke startled as something cold landed on her nose. Blinking in surprise her eyes widened as she saw the lazily drifting flakes falling from the sky. The first snow was here! She was stood underneath a tall tree beside Maluka where they had spent the night, sheltered from a cold, cruel wind. Now a deeply rooted excitement coursed through her veins. It was her snow! Just as it had been the legendary Thowra's snow, and the snow of his progeny, it was her snow too. Daintily, she moved off, highstepping to the edge of the clearing where they had grazed last night. A gentle breeze came and lifted her forelock and suddenly she twisted and bucked and then was off, snorting and playing as the light snowfall landed on her back and sent tingles down her spine. The snow was hardly enough to leave more than a light dusting on the ground but it still filled her with excitement. And when the blizzard came, oh what fun it would be to play in it with Maluka! Her eyes glinted with mischief, she would be invisible, it would be such fun to hide from him then suddenly appear. Of course, he too would be hard to make out in the worst snowfalls. But his dark points would make him still visible, she would be nothing more than a snow ghost. Together they could go wherever they wished over the moutains and valleys, and be hidden from most eyes. What adventures they would have together this winter!

Maluka stopped grazing as soon as the first flake touched his coat. He twitched and then turned his head skyward. Winter had come at last. He turned to Barina and saw the glint of mischief in her eyes and smiled lovingly. Walking quietly over to her, Maluka nuzzled Barina before nipping her playfully on the wither. He pranced through the snow but panicked as he lost her for a second but he soon realized that her colour would hide her. The champion of snow hide and seek. Maluka laughed and stopped to watch her. His thoughts soon drifted to serious things, Garrong. Maluka remembered his words with the black as if they'd been yesterday. As much as Maluka needed Garrong's help he knew he could not let the black stallion catch sight of Barina, the colour silver set something nasty off in his brain. Already word had reached Maluka's ears of Garrong's vicious assault on Nevada, he must congratulate him on that.

Barina whinnied in delight as Maluka joined in on her play, she cantered brisk circles around him, bucking and leaping with excitement. Once his eyes clouded with panic and she snorted in amusement as she realized he had lost her in the snow. She pranced over to him and nipped him on his shoulder, reassuring him of her prescense then was off again. She was having so much fun playing in the snow that she didn't even notice the dark brooding expression cross her stallion's face. She doubled back, and nipped him again, then took off along the clearing, galloping for the pure joy of it.

The nip from Barina brought Maluka out of his thoughts. He laughed and then gladly tor after her, joyously kicking up snow as he went. He had never been happier than he had been with her. Maluka couldn't wait to add a foal to his little family.
.:OOC: Really lame post, I'm so sorry! ^^;

OOC: ah, that's ok Barina felt a thrill of excitement as the grey stallion tore after her. She lengthened her stride to gallop faster, then when she was a good deal ahead, slowed and turned to rear up infront of him. She came back down to all fours, and began to dance a snow filly's dance for him, the swirling eddies of snow rising around her and playing with her mane, so that it twisted upwards then fell cascading down her neck. Though she played like a young filly she could tell something was different inside of her. Come spring she would give birth to Maluka's foal, and the thought filled her with a kind of happiness that she had never felt before.

Trotting up beside the river, Fira led her almost yearling filly across the snow-covered ground, pointing out where the soil ended and the ice covering the edges of the river began. The filly took the information in and her other was glad she was taking the information seriously. Already the younger chestnut was well versed in the ways of staying unnoticed. She always stepped in her mother's footprints, leaving as little evidence as possible of her passing. Despite being young, the filly was fairly well behaved having grown up without other playful companions that she would have in a herd.
Fira was quite content to be without a herd, but she knew that she should find a herd to settle with, at least to just ride out the winter. She couldn't keep her foal quite as safe from the elements as a herd could. Huffing billowing clouds from her nostrils in the cold air, Fira led Kimba onward though the thickening snowfall. Further up the river, she heard sounds of other horses. Glancing back to Kimba, she was glad to see that she had noticed as well. Steeling herself, Fira began to high-step over the gathering drifts toward the commotion.
At first all she could see was a dark grey stallion seeming playing on his own before only the slightest of shapes parted itself from the snow to obscure the chestnut's view of the male. If the mare hadn't of crossed between them as she circled her mate, Fira would have never seen the silver filly. Ears flicking backward, she remembered the pair from earlier on the year, playing about near the men's hut. And here they were, playing again. Did they never stop? Kimba was more excited to see them and as Fira began to make her way toward them, she let out a greeting whinny. Fira hushed her, and tossed her head to free her eyelashes of snow.
"Playing again, are we? At least the men are gone, your mare can draw as much attention as she likes in this season." Most mares would compliment the silver filly on her ability to blend so fully into the snow, but not Fira. She gave the silver filly a withering glance, and looked back to the grey. "I recall you mentioned you were seeking the King the last time we crossed paths." Though at the time, Fira has assumed he was talking about her Aleo but since then she had realised he'd been referring to Tingara, the black oaf. Fira was finally beginning to accept Aleo's disappearance, though she was not pleased about it. Where had he gone? "Did you find his sorry hide? Tingara is a poor replacement for Aleo, it makes me wonder if the only stallions left in the High Country are just as feeble."
Kimba had trotted up beside her mother, looking ungainly on her long legs but showing promise of growing into them come the next season. She looked at Maluka with interest, surprised that the creamy filly that was with him was almost invisible in the falling snow! Kimba looked down at herself. Her rich chestnut coat would never blend in to anything like that! She held back her nicker of excitement, but her posture was open and welcoming unlike the stiff and miserable expression plastered over her mother's body language.

Maluka stopped frolicking as he recognized the voice. He was about to say something rude to the chestnut mare but stopped when he remembered the look on Barina's face last time he'd changed. Instead Maluka simply turned to face the mare, a steely expression on his face. He listened to what she had to say as politely as he could manage, snorting in disgust at the tone Fira used when speaking of Barina. His interest suddenly peaked as she mentioned Tingara. By the tone of her voice she was less than impressed with the 'magnificent' black stallion. "You do not regard his as your King I gather," Maluka now spoke, his tone filled with interest. He thought for awhile, this mare was not loyal to the Tingara, in fact it sounded as though she absolutely loathed him. Maluka was starting to like her. "Alas, I have not been able to find the spineless wonder's hidey-hole," he shook his head angrily.

Barina too had stopped her play at the sound of the hostile voice. Nimbly twisting around in mid-dance she saw a chesnut mare regarding her with contempt, her foal-now almost a yearling-standing just behind her. Barina snorted, she had recognized the voice, it belonged to the dismal mare that had confronted she and Maluka as they played in the creek at the beginning of the summer. Barina's ears flickered backwards in annoyance ever so slightly as the mare regarded her with a withering look. What had she ever done to her sorry self? But Barina was a very sweet filly and not one to take offense seriously, so hiding her annoyance, she simply moved closer to Maluka, noting his indignation on her behalf. She nibbled his mane briefly then turned to look at the mare and foal again, wondering what on earth they could want with herself and Maluka. Being a very naiive and innoccent soul, though they talked of Tingara (apparently a king) with disgust, Barina would never think to assume that this conversation could escalate into a situation where someone could get hurt in the very near future.

Fira lashed her tail, eyeing the grey speculatively. His words were impressive, though the fact that his herd was so small cultivated the seeds of doubt in his ability to be anything but just another boasting stallion, all bark and no bite. Nonetheless, his obvious hatred of Tingara seemed to stretch further than any normal stallion's dislike for their King. Perhaps with a little tutoring, he could be promising. "I will never regard that fool for my King, he doesn't deserve the rank."
With a huff, the chestnut mare stepped toward the dark grey, leaving Kimba to sneak in Barina's direction. "I'm surprised you haven't found it. He's established his herd in Yarraman's Valley. He's so presumptuous to assume the grazing areas of Kings gone by that he will never live up to. Perhaps he thinks just grazing in their hoof steps will bring him luck." Fira tossed her head, holding her sour-featured head proudly. "If I thought you were any better, I would lead you there. I would enjoy watching a good thrashing." Kimba meanwhile had crept over to the silver mare, and was offering her velvety muzzle in greeting.

Maluka smiled, he definitely liked this mare. "Thank you that information is extremely helpful," no longer did he need to fake politeness, this time it was genuine. "The last time we met we did not get off to the best start," he inclined, "my name is Maluka and this is Barina." Maluka finally noticed the chestnut filly creeping over. "You and your lovely filly should not be alone this winter, why don't you stay with us for now?"
