Her voice made him look up, and prick his ears expectantly. He had known what was to happen, and was actually impatient for it to all be over soon. Yes, it was horrible for the other horses to be taken, but if they weren't smart enough to listen to the warnings and make to a safe place, then he could not help them. Instead, Nowego slowly walked to stand by her, watching the wild horses being chased by the tame ones. No matter how hard he tried to pretend he did not care for them, the buckskin knew he would be sad for weeks and weeks. So many of his brethren, never to be seen again in the high country unless they were ridden by a Man. He snorted in a very quiet voice, and gently nudged his mare to be away from the ledge, where they might be seen and also chased. "We have seen enough, now. And remember, if I once again ask you to come with me, away from our regular grazing grounds, it will be for a reason just like this. Trust me," he said kindly, and began to graze again, slowly moving closer to the other side of the clearing so there would be less chance of getting spotted.

Yaruka could sense Nowego's sadness. Though she still didn't quite understand what was going on she felt it too, a sense of dread and despair deep within her being. Something told her that the brumbies the men managed to capture would no longer run free across the mountains. No longer would they live life as they were meant to live it. Sighing, she turned away from the disturbing scene, trying hard to ignore the drumming of the brumbies' hooves and the harsh hollers of the men. She nodded in response to the buckskin stallion and dropped her fine head beside his, grazing quietly.

At just the right moment, a black mare stepped out from the surrounding brush. She showed no sign of surprise at stumbling upon strangers, though she actually had no idea they were here. For a moment she paused, looking thoughtfully at the two brumbies, before casually walking by them to peer out at the steady rush of horses below. "Better to save yourselves, mmm?" She murmured softly, half to herself. Slowly Burilda backed away from the chaotic scene, and turned to face the pair. It was sort of queer, the way she looked at them, her gaze so clear and yet so distant- but always sure, never doubtful.
It had been a long time since Burilda had her not-so-pleasant encounter with Nevada; she always had his presence lingering in her mind, though it wasn't bothersome in the least. Burilda just had to wait... she did hope he called her back, though it wasn't a sure thing. After sighing deeply and breaking away from her thoughts, the black mare lowered her head to graze beside the other two. Yes, they hardly knew each other, but Burilda felt quite at home and so she thought they would, too.

The buckskin stallion snorted quietly over his grass, enjoying the way it blew back from his muzzle and slowly sprang back up. He liked to have control over little things like this, which was strange, but it was quite fun to see small animals like Possums and Wallabies avoiding his greata, big hooves, smart things. They didn't want to be roadkill. His mare felt sad, catching on to his own emotions, and he gradually grazed his way over to stand by her, giving the comfort of his own warm hide. Nowego knew it was hard for her to have to see what was happening to the other horses, but there wasn't anything he could do right now. A loud sound made his ears perk up, and he raised his head silently to look at the intruder. It was a black horse, and by the scent of it, female. He whinnied quietly in the back of his throat, half-warning and half-welcome. He didn't know what to make of it; a strange horse, though it was female, appearing right when they were hiding from Men, and not saying anything apart from what sounded like half an insult. He glanced down at Yaruka, before stepping closer to the other mare. "Hello, stranger. Why have you come to us at this time?" he asked carefully, attempting to not insult her.

Burilda lifted her head at the stallion's questioning voice, unknowingly leaving a strand of grass dangling in her lips. She looked at him with the same inquiring expression, getting the sense that he was trying to balance two things at once. Burilda then noticed the grass protruding from her mouth, and swished her tail, amused- she made no move to remove it. "I do not come to you," she replied at last, in a lighthearted tone. Burilda's gaze flickered momentarily from the stallion to the mare, but it soon returned to the buckskin. "I hope you don't mind me taking some shelter here?" Burilda said in a mildly hopeful tone. She was sort of glad to have ran into the couple; it had been a long time since she had conversed with another brumby. Also, she didn't want to bug the stallion; though if he were that prickly, Burilda would probably just leave anyway.

Yaruka started at a sudden rustling in the bush. Throwing up her delicate head she gazed, wide eyed and with nostrils flared at the mare walking towards them, ready to flee at the first sign of danger. She glanced uncertainly at Nowego but did not move as the stallion walked towards the other mare and addressed her.

The buckskin stallion glanced over at Yaruka, to see her opinion. He was not sure about letting a strange horse be with them, though he was not the kind of horse that rejected another because it did not fit his 'tastes'. He nickered in a friendly manner to the black mare, and backed off a bit, to give her more room. "Certainly we could not think of rejecting you," he whinnied, unafraid of the large herd below as it was covering up his noise with its own.

Burilda gave the buckskin a bit of a queer look; he acted as if she were wanting to join him. She snorted softly to herself, amused at the idea. She had never joined a herd for good, and she wasn't going to try. Burilda gave Nowego a mild nod, her eyes gleaming, before turning to graze the land again. As she clipped the graze short with her pale teeth, she happened to wonder where the pair of brumbies would head to next, after the threat of man had passed. Burilda, of coarse, would leave them by then, but she wondered just the same. Afterall, where would she go? Burilda shook the question out of her head with a toss of her mane. She didn't need to know; she'd get somewhere, and that was all that mattered. Now concentrating on finding the most nutritious grass, Burilda let her thoughts melt away into a quiet peace.

Yaruka glanced back at Nowego, wondering where thisqueer mare had come from and why she was here. Recognizing that the black was no threat, but too shy to go over and introduce herself, Yaruka restlessly dropped her head back to the grass, grazing so that her movements brought her closer to Nowego.

The big golden stallion lifted his head to gaze over the edge, and noted that only the stragglers were left now, hurried on by Men and their whips, while a few horses actually lay dead on the ground, hoofmarks all over them. He snorted in fear, and backed away from that edge, whisking his tail and nudging Yaruka to tell her that it was time to go. "Come, Yaruka, the Men have gone and it is best that we come away from here." As he spoke, Nowego glanced at the strange mare, wondering what she was going to do. He would be happy for her to follow them, even for a short while, but he didn't like approaching mares in that way. Instead, he began to trot across the slope, to a spot where he could go down in the area that the Men had already passed through.
