He pretty much jumped straight out of his furry skin when the filly spoke, and the white stallion spun around on his back legs, crimson mane flicking everywhere and his tail swishing crazily, like a cat after it's had a big dinner. Ru was extremely relieved to have found the filly, and breathed out a huge breath that he had not been aware of keeping in. Phew... he had to keep a better eye on her. He suddenly realized that there was a bit of mud on his coat, and he casually leaned into a tree, scraping it off before she noticed. Close one, mate. Ru-Shiro snorted and shook his head to get a bit of mane out of his eyes. He then sort of looked at Strax sideways, and did a side-step towards her, trying to look all cool. Unfortunately for him, he tripped over his own hooves and banged his head on the same tree he had leaned on. "Ow...," he whimpered, and quickly leaped to his hooves again, trying to act nonchalant.

On the hunt, Sam’s favourite place to be. He gently clicked his tongue and urged Cas forward through the undergrowth. The stallion grudgingly obliged and crept through the trees, being careful where he placed his hooves. The last thing both horse and rider needed was to be snagged by a tree branch at the wrong time. Sam pulled Cas up and listened for a moment, a few yards up ahead there were sounds. Small whinnies followed by a loud ‘thwack!’ “Great,” Sam whispered. There were definitely horses up ahead but what the hell were they doing? He gripped the rope attached to his saddle with one hand and Cas’ reins with the other. The leather creaked as the man pushed himself up in the saddle, trying to catch a glimpse of the brumbies through the trees.
Cas knew his rider’s body language and began to grow excited. He pulled at the reins impatiently and Sam pulled back. The horse snorted in frustration and then gave Sam full control. Slowly the pair edged to where the sounds were coming from. Finally they came into view. A sturdy looking black filly and a reasonably built white colt. They’d be great to work with and probably fetch a reasonable price.
Sam decided to single out the white stallion first; people liked the rarer colours better. Just as he readied himself to go at the horse he noticed there was someone else eyeing off the same horse.

OOC: Not sure when you want Jason to accomplish, Tex, but he'll have a real good go at catching one of them XD IC:
Trekking through the bush on Marie was a good way to judge how this years Brumby Drive would go. There hadn't been a large-scale drive for a few years now, and so there was a good chance that they would capture plenty of stock. Today, Jason hadn't set out with any intention of roping a horse, but when he heard - or rather noticed Marie hearing - something up ahead, he swung his mare toward the sound and thankfully came upon the colt and mare from downwind. Ordinarily he would leave them, but the grey colt would fetch a pretty penny with that striking chestnut mane. When they did the drive, there was no guarantee he would get the colt at all, so it was worth a shot now.
Picking up his rope, Jason signalled Marie and they moved as stealthily as they could toward the young brumbies. When in range, Marie launched into a sprint, and Jason made ready to fling his lasso when the colt provided an opportunity. He didn't notice the other wrangler until he and Marie were already on the chase, but there was no worrying about him. First come, first serve.

OOC- whoa, I didn't realize that red dun was such a wanted colour xD Everyone's going for him!
The white colt had been paying attention only to the black filly, but now it was diverted to some strange sounds and scents coming from strategic places near the two brumbies. He flicked his ears towards these places, and half-turned his head to try and see what was making him so nervous. There were a few flashes of colour behind the gum trees, and a familiar scent drifted towards the two. Ru snorted and tried to analyse the scents, taking precious moments to realize that there were hunters behind those trees. He gave a startled whinny without thinking, and nipped the black filly to get her attention. He tossed his head wildly to get her to follow him, and the red dun colt immediately launched off after that. He wouldn't be able to help her if she didn't start running now. While he was running, the colt glanced back a few times, at the humans. One of them was riding a bay stallion, the other a mare he couldn't see well enough to guess what colour she was. He stayed silent this time, and swung around to the left, hoping he could go in a large circle towards the river. Thankfully they didn't have any dogs to follow his scent with.

“What the...?” Sam swore and kicked Cas into action, attempting to stear him pas the other man. He’d have to have a go at the other man later on, for now the chase was on. The man loosened his hold on the reins and let Cas go, he knew what to do. Cas saw the young stallion’s move before he’d made it and changed direction accordingly. Sam gave the bay stallion a pat and then spurred him forward.
They drew closer; the wild horse’s grey hide was almost in reaching range. Sam didn’t bother to acknowledge another rider by his side. Balancing in the saddle the man gathered up his rope ready to throw it. He took a shot at the red dun. “Damn it,” he swore as the rope fell short.

OOC- I know I'm not posting in turn, but since he's the one getting chased, I reckon he should have a go at getting away. =3
The colt swerved dangerously close to the trees as he felt something scrape his rump. It must be a rope! One of those thingies that they catch you with. Ru couldn't see the filly he had been with before, so he took matters into his own hands. Or hooves. The colt watched the man behind him, and judged when it would be best to try out his idea. They had both just slowed down to avoid a random patch of large boulders, when he, being a sure-footed fellow, jumped on the spot, pirouetted on his front hooves, spun to face a different direction and leaped over a few more boulders. He then tore off down this new path, thinking more about the human after him than the other one. Ru dodged through a large area of trees that shaded the ground, and wove a weird path through them, trying to throw the man off. He was trying to get to the river, and if all went well, he should get there in a few minutes.

Straijx looked about to see something, she signaled herself to attention. her visionaries swiveled around, to see dark shapes in the mist. Now she was ready to gone. Kicking up her heels swiveling to the other direction. What was happening? Her hoofs smashed the earth as her thoughts where churning, she had only seen these things once, what where they doing here again? Where they after Ru? What was happening. The filly automatically dodged the trees, weaving through the thick trunks. Her eyes searched frantically trying to find her Ru. Was he okay? Or had the strange animals nabbed him. She came beside the river. Skidding to a stop she looked around, almost feeling her own skin peeling off with the shock. She felt her self start wheeling around on her hind legs, looking around making sure no one was around. She then heard a snap and instantly she wheeled around and peeled back into the bush. galloping frantically through the bush, she knew she shouldn't call for him, but she was feeling lost. Straijx squealed unexpectedly for Ru. Feeling herself start to move faster through the wilderness.

Jason swore, pulled Marie up sharply and took her around the field of boulders to follow the colt on his new path. He was a fair way behind, but he and Marie managed to follow the path of the colt, making use of his white coat to spot him in the shadowy trees. Ignoring the other man, Jason pushed his bay mare onward, trying to keep up with the colt and keep ahead of the other man. The ground would open up soon for the river, and hopefully he'd be able to get a throw off with his rope.

Sam pulled Cas up for a fraction to survey his surroundings and get his bearings. The man knew the country backwards and saw the colt was heading to the river. He and Cas doubled back and began towards the river. Hopefully they’d be able to ambush him there, unless the new idiot had other plans. Great, just what Sam needed, some random going cowboy and scaring off a prize young stallion. Onwards he urged Cas towards the river.
Eventually they arrived and it seemed before the colt had. Waiting for him stood the black filly from earlier. Excellent, bait. Now all horse and rider had to do was wait for the carrot top colt to show himself.

Ru was panting wildly; not from exhaustion, as the humans might have thought, but from adrenalin. He knew that his only chance was the river, and getting there before anyone else. Oh, where was that black filly? The human chasing him wasn't the first one, so perhaps the first one to chase him had gone after his filly? He had only just met her, and already it was 'his' filly. Strax... Ru snorted a little and sped up his gallop, not really jumping over logs but more pulling his legs up and letting his momentum pull his body forwards. Ru was getting closer to the river, and his ears could just pick up the burbling of the water. He whinnied in joy, practically forgot about the human chasing him, and made a final leap to land on the bank sand. Just as his front hooves touched the ground, he realized three things; 1. Strax was waiting for him, completely unmolested and just let to stand there. 2. The second human was waiting for him. 3. He was so busted. The grey and red colt stayed quiet, as was his custom (and all wild horse's custom -.-) while he galloped like hell for the river. He knew a way to jump it safely, and it wasn't likely the humans had much of an idea. But still, unless he managed to dodge both lassos, those humans had him right where they wanted him. And that made him cross.
