Jerome sulks along the tree line towards Lake Cootapatamba, occasionally grabbing at strands of grass and ripping them from their roots in frustration.
How dare that brute chase him away, it was obvious that he did not appreciate his herd if he left them unattended so long. No wonder his herd was so bad tempered, they knew not the love of a -real- king and were lashing out in anger and loneliness.
Jerome ears perked a little, those mares didn't know happiness now but they would! He would claim them and care for them and they would realise and bath in his glory and understand all they had missed.
With that in mind, Jerome stopped sulkng and tosses his head back proudly, shaking his glorious mane and prancing up the waters edge, doing his best to ignore the biting sting and his still fresh wounds.

Hearing noises near the water's edge, Sola moved through the trees. His hooves felt so sensitive without the protection of shoes and he'd been out in the wilderness for days without shelter or a nice warm rug at night. He'd get used to it, he knew that, but it would just take time. Upon reaching the edge of a wattle thicket, he peered out between browning tree and saw a dun stallion - probably not much younger than he. Naturally, he was supposed to befriend fillies first, but Sola wondered if the stallion was friendly. If not, well, he thought he would just run away from the dun. He stepped out, feeling the gravel under his hooves. He slowly walked towards the dun; white tail flickering in the wind, head low in submission. He didn't want to aggravate any horses, but he'd been alone for a long time now and just wanted to talk to someone.

Jerome stopped his prancing as he got to the waters edge and leaned down for a drink but stopped midway as his eyes caught sight of another horse. His head shot straight up and look in that direction in hope. Was it a pretty filly?
No. Just another stallion, he shook his head a little in disappointment. He was an impressive looking bay, although naturally not nearly as impressive as Jerome himself he thought.
He turned to face this new intruder to his High Country and reared, calling out to him.
"Halt! Who is this who approaches and what business do you have with Jerome?"

The stallion called out to him, and Sola pricked his ears in interest. Well, he didn't sound too angry, so the white-tailed bay continued his slow advance, stopping about a length away from the dun.
"Um, s-sorry," he began, "I'm just wandering around here. My name is Sola. What is yours? Do you have a herd?"

This new one, Sola. He seemed intelligent straight from the get go, he knew to bow his head in Jerome's presence and sought not to fight him.
"My name is Jerome, I currently do not run with anyone, those who I would have run with me are being kept away from me by another in these parts. You have no one of your own I see?"
While he spoke Jerome kept his head high and proud, looking down his nose at Sola.

This stallion appeared to be quite powerful from the way he held his head and spoke, so Sola was careful not to make him too angry. He picked his head up a little higher and approached the water, dipping his nose to drink.
After drinking his fill, he spoke back to Jerome. "Oh, that is unfortunate." Sola said earnestly, "did a stallion steal mares from you? I have no-one, yes. I was a man's horse, but I was set free." Sola felt a little sorry for himself at his own fate.

Jerome backed his footing away from Sola a little at the words, reaccessing the horse in front of him and looking around in caution as if a man would suddenly appears at the word.
"Set free? Men do not set horses free, they trap them and then work them to death."

Sola sighed, he wasn't surprised at Jerome's reaction to his news. "Yes, that is true. They did that to me, but I was not useful to them and I was set free. I was lucky they didn't shoot me." He pawed at the rocks by the lake and ate some of the sweeter shoots of grass growing under a well-lodged rock. "I understand if you feel ... weird." Sola lashed his white tail, "I will go if it upsets you."

Jerome snorted, was this man's horse implying that his presence unnerved him. Hardly, no man would ever be able to catch him, his speed had been compared to that of the legendary Thowra himself.
He snorted again and stamped his hooves, "Do as you please, your presense does not worry me."

Sola nodded, flicking his ears this way and that. So, this Jerome wasn't bothered by him. That was a good sign. He moved up the bank and began to graze on the patches of grass around there.
"Where do you plan to go?" Sola asked for the sake of conversation, you look like you've been hurt. How did that happen? Are you okay?""
