Kessa tossed her head. "I guess I'm too picky. I want a stallion who's fun, you know? But not one of those self-obsessed types. Someone that's exciting, not afraid to fight." Kessa was fickle at times, and a stallion that would pay attention to her would suit her well. But her attention wavered. She wanted excitement with only that little hint of danger. She didn't really want to risk her life, but she didn't want to spend all her time cooped up and grazing and only moving at the whim of her stallion.
The wind had the grey stallion downwind, so Kessa was completely unawares of his presence. She usually looked after herself quite well, but with a new friend to talk to, she forgot all about keeping watch.

"Haha, you do sound picky," Dilali laughed, "but sometimes pickyness can be a good thing. That way you'll hold out for the right stallion and not the next one you-" Dilali's sentence was cut short because of a noise she'd heard behind her. She wheeled sharply on her neat hooves in time to see a pair of horse eyes falsh in the shadows of the setting sun.

Aleo snorted a little under his breath and pricked his ears forward as one of the mares noticed him. He wasn't too sure whether he wanted to give himself away completely, or whether he wanted to throw away his current freedom to look after some mares. The filly didn't seem to look away, so he backed a little more under the trees and let out a long, slow nicker, though he really didn't understand why he did it.

Dilali heard the quiet call and knew instantly that it was a stallion hiding in the trees. She starred harder into the trees, trying to get a glimpse of him. "Please come out," she whinnied gentley. Dilali didn't know what she was doing but something was telling her to talk to the stranger.

Huh, horse noises, that was weird for this place and time, the nearest mob was in the southern area of their range, quite a distance away from here. Rezar had been returning from the lake, trying to find a place to camp out for the night and by chance ended up close to the little clearing the mares where staying in. He hesitated, ears pricked and nostrils raking in the air, debating whether or not to investigate.
Evidently, he decided it was a worthwhile venture because he quickly turned and trotted downwind of the clump of trees before working his way through. That way he’d smell whoever was in there without being smelt himself. Unfortunately, it wasn’t as though his colour was very easy to hide.
The decision to enter from where he did ended up in a lucky fluke, because he smelt Aleo before he saw him. The silvering light was making the grey harder and harder to spot, so he was actually on the verge of walking into him. Rezar realised his cover was about to be undoubtedly blown any second, so he made a light little spring to the right, walking straight past the grey and into the little clearing, making sure he was showing off his best side and shaking himself off to look nonchalant. He still hadn’t mastered this ‘look handsome around mares’ thing, but hopefully he was doing alright.
”Call me what you will, but I never thought stalking was a good way of getting a fillies attention.” he joked lightly with a look back at Aleo. He wasn’t looking for a fight, but it had been too late to back out the moment he had entered the trees.

Aleo snorted at the intruder and emerged from the snowgum thicket. He never really was one to pick fights, but he always stood up to a challenge. Besides, he didn't like this new stallion one bit. "Call me what you want, but having an attitude like that won't get them to like you, either." He replied. It was almost ironic how in one day he had made a friend, and in the next instant, found someone he disliked. Though Aleo wasn't interested in having an all-out fight with the stallion, he didn't want to lose the fillies to him, the smoky grey one in particular.

Startled by the arrival of not one but two stallions, Kessa squealed and pinned her ears back. She shyed away, glaring at the pair. "Neither of you will keep a filly if you scare us away. Stupid males. Leave us alone." She flicked her tail in annoyance, gahering back her wits and becoming more and more irritated at herself that she had not noticed the pair approach.
The grey seemed the more experienced and older of the two, though the other held her attention with he odd colouring and the way he held his mouth. She bared her teeth, hoping the show of bravado would make the pair give them up as a hard catch and leave Kessa and her new friend alone.

Dilali pinned her ears towards her neck and looked from Kessa, to the grey and then to the strangely coloured palomino, or buckskin. The palomino's colour interested her but his personality did not. He seemed arrogant wheras the grey just seemed annoyed at the younger stallion. "Tell me us your names," Dilali nickered curiously.

Aleo and Kessa had given him a little reminder however as to exactly how much he had missed in his time away. Okay, new strategy! In response to Kessa’s surprised outburst, which he could hardly blame her for; Rezar gave her a respectful nod and moved backwards a step or two to give her a little space.
He only noticed the second grey properly after she said anything, what with Kessa making her opinion known. “My name is Rezar” he replied quickly, giving the other two a quick cautious glance seeing as both seemed a little likely to suddenly snap. “And I’m sorry if I’m interrupting, I was just curious as to what a group of horses is doing here, that’s all. I was under the impression there wasn't any other herd nearby.”

"Don't spend much time around here, do you?" Aleo said directly to Rezar, before pricking his ears at the grey mare who spoke to them. "My name is Aleo." He said simply. He was more worried about what kind of attitude Rezar was going to take with him. He'd had fights with other colts before so he wasn't particularly scared of him, yet he didn't want to give the mares a bad impression.
